Purpose of the role is to audit occupational health, safety and environmental (HSE) management systems against set standards and people compliance, assist and advise operational management to maintain HSE risk management systems. Operational processes and comply with relevant legal requirements whilst striving to achieve zero harm and global best practices.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  1. 1.      Procedures and Controls
  • Act as an adviser to line management in risk assessment processes and all incident investigations and make sure non-conformances ae closed and corrective/preventive measures taken are checked for effectiveness.
  1. 2.      Monitoring/Enforcing conformance
  • Ensure that activities are done in a manner that people adhere to procedures and HSE Committee meetings and inspections are done periodically according to set schedules and actions emanating thereof are timeously implemented.
  1. 3.      Audit and investigation
  • Review risk assessments, HSE objectives, targets and plans to ensure compliance with audit requirements and conduct the following:
  • Facilitates HSE incident investigations – as per 1 above
  • Conducts internal auditing of HSE system documentation and compliance
  • An audit on permit and lock out procedure compliance and produce report for corrective measures purpose
  • Stop day Audits as per schedule and procedure and report on deviations and compliance.
  • SHE Training needs analysis and make recommendations to the training department and work with the HSE Manager to develop a training programme.
  • Enforce compliance to the HSE Standards within the workplace
  • Facilitate HSE induction for new permanent, casuals and contractors and keep relevant information on file.
  • Assists the HSE Manager and line management in maintaining HSE Management systems, complying with legal, corporate and other relevant requirements
  1. 4.      Visibility
  • Maintain a high level of workplace presence and visibility to employees at work stations influencing safe behaviour amongst employees and auditing workplace safety and ongoing compliance with HSE rules and procedures.
  1. 5.      Communication
  • Liaise with the HSE Manager on TH Safety Procedures and Policies.
  • Maintain a high standard of PPE Compliance
  • Supports HSE Manager to coordinate and facilitate HSE Training.
  • Assists HSE Manager to engage with regulatory authorities on  investigative and audit processes, securing permits/licences and / or reporting on incidents.
  • Participate in HSE Meetings and present information on interventions and investigative outcomes pertaining to the SHEQ functionality. Attending HSE meetings and Daily production meetings
  • Ensures regular emergency response exercises and drills are conducted to ensure the highest level of preparedness in any emergency. Maintain records of such drills & provides recommendations for improvements.
  • Contractor Management -Conducting audits on Contractors HSE files to verify compliance of contractors/suppliers with Section 37.2 of the OHS Act
  • Oversee SD Toolkit Incident Management and Sustainability Information system relating to incidents and sustainability figures
  • Conducts safety assessments and risk assessments and develop SHEMPS thereof.
  • Ensures that medical surveillance and surveys ae conducted as per the THS HSE Standards.
  • Ensure that Planned Job Observation schedules are available, and sections are conducting them as planned.
  • Participating in developmental Project meetings and providing inputs or contributions to matters affecting or concerning HSE.
  • Providing information to complete the operations Safety balanced score cards and related guidelines.
  1. 6.      Integrated HSE System Management
  • Tracking and analysing reports on incidents and near misses and implementing corrective actions
  • Oversee the waste management program and evaluating conformance of actions and applications to the HSE requirements.
  • Tracking of environmental key performance indicators (KPI) through the collection and analysis of data and, assessing information against environmental performance.
  • Developing action plans for follow up and closure of action items arising from audit findings, fire risk assessments and hygiene surveys.

        Monitoring and tracking dates relating to the completion and submission of legal documents, HSE Representatives Reports, HSE meeting minutes and audit and inspection findings, HSE Stats

Qualifications & Experience

  • A tertiary qualification in Safety Management or equivalent – NQF Level 6.
  • SAMTRAC, ISO 14001 & ISO 45001 Qualification
  • Substantial years (3 - 5 years) experience in the HSE field.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of HSE Legislations.
  • Strong administrative knowledge
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Good problem solving ability.
  • Results focus – Demonstrates courage, drive and determination to achieve results.
  • Communication – communicates effectively and shares information and knowledge using appropriate channels and technology to both individuals and groups. Exceptional written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
  • Drivers Licence Code 8 (code B)
