The Role at Black Swan
Datasets that Black Swan produce are the core of all our products. The Dataset team is responsible for the creation and maintenance of all these datasets. The Data Definer role is a unique blend of analyst, market researcher and communicator. This role is responsible for understanding the context and content of the existing and new datasets, we work to refine, improve and evaluate the datasets. We take a consultative approach to anticipate client needs, partnering with our clients and client facing teams to effectively understand these needs. While also having broader exposure to Product, Data Science and Data Engineering departments. You will be part of an engaging, fast-paced environment, working within a dynamic and social team.
Key Accountabilities include:
Researches and creates robust category datasets for use in analysis and reporting. Manages taxonomy curation and improvement for structured social datasets. Re-uses and incorporates publicly available or 3rd party taxonomies and ontologies where possible. Ensure datasets across domains are fully maintained and published each month while upholding standards of quality and delivery quality. Responsible for researching and creating robust social queries to define category & sector conversation (i.e. Twitter, long-form content, Facebook, Instagram). Utilises Black Swan proprietary tools and work in collaboration with cross functional teams to access, organise, expand and interrogate social data to define category & sector conversation. Conducts data-led quantitative analysis to a high standard to extract insights from sizeable datasets. Build an understanding of our domains, tying together trends in Datasets to broader industry trends. Support on client conversations and liaise with client teams, providing insight on Dataset processes as well as category definitions and content.Who you are

Enthusiasm to learn new tools and processes quickly. Able to work in a flexible and agile work environment.Desired skills and experience:
Strong proficiency in English and Japanese language. A bachelor’s degree OR a relevant data analytics related certification. 2-4 years working experience in quantitative research/analytics, or a SaaS product role. Real-world experience defining research questions, gather and analyse data, as well as communicating results in a business or research setting. Comfortable applying basic quantitative analytics techniques to data, with experience or understanding of analysing and interpreting digital data sources such as social media. Understands how to build robust social media data queries using appropriate and efficient syntax. Strong technical writing skills and the ability to communicate complex analyses to non-technical stakeholders. Able to think critically about processes and solve problems through creating a clear hypothesis and plan of action. An interest in new emerging research techniques and the potential in data and technology. Solid project management skills and the ability to multitask. Proficient using Excel, crosstab and equivalent data manipulation tools.The following skills are ideal but not essential:
Experience or interest in a variety of industry sectors: FMCG, Food & Beverage, Avionics, Finance, Healthcare. Experience or interest in SQL, databases, script writing and or model building (python, R). Additional language skills. Advanced Excel Skills.What makes a Swan?
