About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Data Definer to join our team in Cape Town or Hungary. As a Data Definer, you will be responsible for researching and creating robust category datasets for use in analysis and reporting. You will manage taxonomy curation and improvement for structured social datasets, re-use and incorporate publicly available or 3rd party taxonomies and ontologies where possible.

Main Responsibilities

  1. Researches and creates robust category datasets for use in analysis and reporting.
  2. Manages taxonomy curation and improvement for structured social datasets. Re-uses and incorporates publicly available or 3rd party taxonomies and ontologies where possible.
  3. Ensures datasets across domains are fully maintained and published each month while upholding standards of quality and delivery quality.
  4. Responsible for researching and creating robust social queries to define category & sector conversation (i.e. Twitter, long-form content, Facebook, Instagram).
  5. Utilises Black Swan proprietary tools and work in collaboration with cross-functional teams to access, organise, expand and interrogate social data to define category & sector conversation. Conducts data-led quantitative analysis to a high standard to extract insights from sizeable datasets.
  6. Buils an understanding of our domains, tying together trends in Datasets to broader industry trends.
  7. Supports on client conversations and liaises with client teams, providing insight on Dataset processes as well as category definitions and content.

Key Skills and Qualifications

  • A strong proficiency in English.
  • A bachelor's degree OR a relevant data analytics related certification.
  • 2-4 years working experience in quantitative research/analytics, or a SaaS product role.
  • Real-world experience defining research questions, gathering and analysing data, as well as communicating results in a business or research setting.
  • Comfortable applying basic quantitative analytics techniques to data, with experience or understanding of analysing and interpreting digital data sources such as social media.
  • Understands how to build robust social media data queries using appropriate and efficient syntax.
  • Strong technical writing skills and the ability to communicate complex analyses to non-technical stakeholders.
