PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The Technical Trainer will be responsible for equipping employees with the essential knowledge, practical skills, and motivation required to perform their roles effectively and safely. This role plays a key part in driving operational excellence by delivering targeted training interventions, supporting skills development, and participating in continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing workforce capability and production efficiency.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Identifying training needs by conducting skills audits and engaging in regular consultations with technical teams and unit managers to ensure alignment with business objectives.
  • Assists in conducting skills audits and implementing a skills matrix to support the development and evaluation of employee competencies across various roles.
  • Develops and maintain a comprehensive skills matrix for supervisory, skilled, and semi-skilled employees within the business unit and identifying gaps for development
  • Develop and present applicable training material as per the requirements of the department on an ongoing basis
  • Supports the unit manager in developing and maintaining a comprehensive training plan that reflects the needs of the organisation, individual departments, and employees
  • Regularly review work instructions and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in collaboration with plant unit managers to ensure they remain relevant, accurate, and compliant with operational and regulatory standards
  • Facilitates the onboarding process for new technical staff and make sure they are equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills
  • Manage the delivery of technical training and development programmes.
  • Ensure that statutory training requirements are met.
  • Ensure accurate capturing of all training and development activities done
  • Review engineering procurement and technical scope (time, cost, and quality) is aligned with business objectives across.
  • Collaborate with the HR Business Partner (HRBP) to amend and revise training programmes, ensuring alignment with evolving workplace needs and strategic goals.
  • Maintain training records and documentation required by training authorities. Support the HRBP with timely and compliant submission of all necessary documents.
  • Manage the apprentice's technical development program and ensure the artisan pipeline is aligned with the business's requirement needs over the next 3–5 years.

  • Consistently maintain and adhere to quality standards.
  • Identify gaps and root causes, and present and implement corrective, measurable solutions.

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE

  • Grade 12 with Maths and Sciences.
  • Certified Red Seal Electrical Trade Test.
  • Understanding of Quality Management and Continuous Improvement principles.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Person who has worked at foreman+ level and familiar with electrical/mechanical/electronic equipment maintenance.
  • Experience at foreman level or higher, with hands-on knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and electronic equipment maintenance
  • Willingness to work flexible hours
