Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 / National Senior Certificate is essential.

  • A relevant qualification in refrigeration will serve as preference.

  • Minimum 3–5 years' experience in an industrial refrigeration environment (preferably ammonia-based systems).

  • Working knowledge of compressors, condensers, evaporators, and control systems.

  • Knowledge of Safety, Health, and Environmental (SHE) requirements and ammonia handling procedures.

  • Ability to work shifts and respond to after-hours call-outswhen required.

  • Good problem-solving and fault-finding skills.

  • Attention to detail and accuracy in record-keeping.

  • Teamwork and communication skills.

  • Ability to work under pressure and follow safety protocols.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operate, monitor, and maintain the ammonia refrigeration plant and related equipment to ensure efficient performance.

  • Conduct daily inspections and record system parameters such as pressures, temperatures, and oil levels.

  • Respond promptly to alarms, faults, and abnormal operating conditions.

  • Perform routine maintenance, cleaning, and lubrication of compressors, condensers, evaporators, and pumps.

  • Assist in troubleshooting and repair of refrigeration and utility equipment.

  • Maintain compliance with safety, health, and environmental regulations (including ammonia safety).

  • Ensure correct operation of defrost systems and temperature control for production and cold storage areas.

  • Maintain accurate logs, checklists, and maintenance records.

  • Support plant shutdowns, startups, and scheduled maintenance activities.

  • Collaborate with production and maintenance teams to minimize downtime and energy usage.
