- About the team

The Sustainability team is responsible for the firmwide strategy, policies and initiatives on sustainability and stewardship. It provides oversight, coordination and expertise across several areas, including:

– Stewardship, engagement and proxy voting

– Frameworks, tools and data to support ESG analysis and integration

– Sustainable product development and implementation of sustainability-related regulation

The team also manages our firmwide sustainability reporting, advocacy, and engagement with industry bodies and stakeholders.

This role will play a pivotal role, working closely with the investment and technology teams, to build and enhance the systems and tools that underpin Ninety One's sustainability and ESG data capabilities — supporting both public and private market investment platforms.
- In this role you will:

• Work with technology teams and contribute to the design and build of Ninety One's sustainability data and systems, ensuring scalability, performance and integrity
• Develop production ready data pipelines from multiple data sources into a unified, high-quality, trusted data environment
• Build and automate dashboards to serve internal users — including investment, risk, and sustainability teams
• Support the build-out of private markets ESG and impact data systems, ensuring accurate and consistent data capture and reporting across asset types
• Develop analytics tools and machine learning models to assess companies' ESG and sustainability characteristics, and to help design and evaluate portfolios that deliver impact alongside risk-adjusted returns
• Partner with investment and technology teams to prototype and deploy AI-driven insights that enhance ESG integration and sustainability performance measurement
• Translate business needs into technical specifications and manage project delivery, liaising across multiple stakeholders (Private Markets Investment team, Investment Risk, Technology)
• Contribute to the development of sustainability frameworks and data governance standards across the firm
• Support data strategy decisions, vendor evaluations, and ensure systems meet evolving regulatory and client reporting needs

• You should consider applying if you have:

• 5+ years' experience as a quantitative analyst, data scientist or software engineer, preferably within investment management or sustainability analytics

• Proven experience managing end-to-end development projects, from requirements gathering through to deployment and maintenance
• Demonstrated ability to deploy models and analytical tools into production and collaborate with engineers on scalable data solutions
• Strong programming skills in Python and SQL; experience with Databricks is a plus
• Familiarity with data visualisation (Power BI, Tableau or Python-based frameworks)
• Understanding of ESG and impact data, sustainability assessment frameworks, and related regulatory and reporting frameworks
• Excellent communication skills, able to bridge business and technical domains and manage multiple internal stakeholders
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate complex sustainability objectives into practical, data-driven tools
