As the business continues to grow and diversify across funeral insurance, micro-insurance, and broader insurance offerings, we are seeking a proven financial executive to shape and lead the finance function into its next phase.

2. Role Purpose

The Finance Executive will provide strategic financial leadership, guide business performance, and ensure robust financial governance across the organisation. This is a critical executive role responsible for building the full finance capability —designing the structure, recruiting talent, and leading the Head of Finance.

will partner closely with the CEO and EXCO to drive long-term financial sustainability and strategic growth.

3. Industry Experience – Priority

Experience in the following sectors (in order of importance):

1. Funeral services / funeral insurance (first prize)
2. Micro-insurance
3. General insurance
4. Financial services (broader)

4. Key Responsibilities

A. Strategic Leadership

• Serve as a key member of EXCO, contributing to overall strategic direction.
• Advise the CEO and Board on financial strategy, capital management, and business performance.
• Lead financial planning, forecasting, scenario modelling, and long-term financial strategy.

B. Finance Function Build-Out

• Design and establish a high-performance finance department tailored to the organisation's growth.
• Lead, mentor, and manage the Head of Finance.
• Recruit, develop, and structure a scalable finance team to support operations and future expansion.

C. Financial Management & Controls

• Oversee budgeting, financial reporting, cash flow management, and cost control.
• Ensure the organisation maintains strong financial governance, internal controls, and risk management.
• Deliver accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial results.

D. Insurance & Regulatory Compliance

• Oversee regulatory compliance related to funeral insurance, micro-insurance, and broader insurance products.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant frameworks (e.g., FSCA, IFRS, solvency requirements, audit standards).
• Manage relationships with auditors, regulators, and key financial stakeholders.

E. Operational & Commercial Finance

• Provide commercial insight that drives operational efficiency and business growth.
• Support pricing, actuarial alignment, and product profitability initiatives.
• Partner with operational leaders to analyse performance and improve margins.

5. Minimum Requirements

• Registered CA(SA)
  – non-negotiable.
• 10+ years of progressive finance leadership experience within funeral, micro-insurance, insurance, or financial services.
• Proven track record of building or transforming a finance function.
• Strong knowledge of insurance financial reporting and regulatory environments.
• Ability to lead executive-level discussions and influence strategic decisions.
• Johannesburg based, with the ability to work
  3 days per week in the office
