Lathe/Fluting Machine Operator

Performs a wide variety of duties to operate fluting, frosting and lathe machines as well as mechanical maintenance activities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Attend to the precision re-fluting of rolls as per the requirements of the Mill Manager

  2. Ensure that both fluted rolls (break rolls, cracking rolls) and smooth rolls (reduction rolls) are done in accordance with specifications as dictated by the Mill Manager

  3. Independently operating conventional machines (Lathe, Milling, and Router)

  4. Provide training and technical support to fellow setters, operators, and apprentices

  5. Ensure that all tools as required are available at all times.

  6. Work with the maintenance team in the plant when required to do so..

  7. Maintain daily, weekly, monthly activities records.

  8. Maintain schedules of work based on set priorities

  9. Machine operation- Programming lathes and milling machines to produce parts according to technical drawings and specifications.

  10. Monitoring - Continuously monitor machine operations, making adjustments to speed and settings to ensure accuracy and efficiency

  11. Quality control - Inspect finished products using precision measuring tools to ensure they meet required quality standards and specifications.

  12. Setup and maintenance - Perform routine preventative maintenance, cleaning, and troubleshooting on the machines

Minimum Requirements:

Proficiency in operating both lathe and milling machines

Strong attention to detail and precision.

Problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Has 3 years of experience in turning, two of which should be in operation of a fluting machine

Has worked in a mill as a maintenance technician.

High school diploma or equivalent.

Formal training in machining or a related field is preferred
