Sales Cashier

Our client, an established and well-known liquor store in Stellenbosch, is seeking a reliable and customer-focused Cashier to serve as the friendly face of their operation while ensuring accurate financial transactions. This role combines excellent customer service with meticulous payment processing and compliance responsibilities essential to their daily trading operations.

Key Responsibilities

·       Operate point-of-sale system accurately, processing cash, card, and EFT transactions

·       Balance cash drawer at start and end of each shift, ensuring all discrepancies are reported immediately

·       Provide excellent customer service, assisting customers with product selection and queries

·       Verify customer age in compliance with the Liquor Act (no sales to persons under 18 years)

·       Process refunds, exchanges, and loyalty programme transactions according to company policy

·       Maintain a clean, organized checkout area and ensure product displays near tills are well-stocked

·       Monitor and report suspicious behaviour or potential theft

·       Assist with stock counts and receiving when required

·       Adhere to all company policies, health and safety regulations, and liquor licensing requirements

·       This position offers excellent exposure to the telecommunications industry while developing diverse administrative skills in an established business environment. The successful candidate will play a vital role in supporting both customer-facing operations and internal business functions.

Requirements

Essential:

·       Grade 12 (Matric) certificate

·       Minimum 3 years retail cashier experience (liquor retail experience advantageous)

·       Strong numeracy skills and accuracy with cash handling

·       Clear criminal record (verification required)

·       Sober habits – no substance abuse

·       Availability to work 6 days per week including Sundays and public holidays on a rotational roster

·       Ability to work retail hours (including evenings and peak periods)

·       Physically able to stand for extended periods

·       Attention to detail and confidentiality

·       South African Citizens only, applicants residing in Stellenbosch and surrounding areas will be given preference.

Desirable

·       Knowledge of liquor products (wine, spirits, beer categories)

·       Experience in a high-volume retail environment

·       Basic computer literacy
