Purpose of the Job
The Store Manager will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of store operations, ensuring the highest standards of service, efficiency, and compliance. This role requires strong leadership, organisational skills, and a commitment to delivering exceptional customer experiences while managing both front-of-house and back-of-house functions.
Key Responsibilities
Operations Management
- Manage all Food and Beverage and day-to-day operations within budgeted guidelines and to the highest standards, across both back-of-house and front-of-house.
- Refine menus, oversee purchasing, and implement continuous improvements.
- Foster two-way communication and nurture an ownership culture with emphasis on motivation and teamwork.
- Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations.
- Report to management on sales performance, productivity, and team outcomes.
Leadership
- Lead and manage a diverse team, ensuring high performance, motivation, and engagement.
- Recruit, train, and provide ongoing guidance to staff.
- Establish and monitor targets, KPIs, schedules, policies, and procedures.
- Conduct annual performance appraisals and uphold disciplinary standards in line with company policy.
Customer Service
- Deliver outstanding guest experiences and actively seek and respond to feedback.
- Maintain excellent levels of internal and external customer service.
- Identify customer needs and respond proactively to concerns.
Communication
- Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills when engaging with colleagues, guests, and stakeholders.
Organisational Skills
- Manage budgets, schedules, and inventory effectively to optimise efficiency and profitability.
Team Management
- Train and develop staff, oversee performance management, and ensure effective rostering to meet operational requirements.
Minimum Requirements
- South African Citizen
- Grade 12 (Matric)
- 3–5 years' proven experience in Food and Beverage Hospitality Management
- Demonstrated flexibility to work varied schedules, including weekends, public holidays, peak trading periods, and evenings
Skills Requirements
- Proficiency in computer applications, including MS Office, POS systems, and GAAP software
- Strong problem-solving abilities with a track record of resolving operational challenges efficiently
- Skilled in delegating and coordinating multiple tasks simultaneously
- Excellent communication and leadership capabilities
- Knowledgeable about current food and beverage trends, industry standards, and best practices
- Proven ability to manage teams effectively and achieve financial performance targets
- Guest-focused with a strong service orientation
- Solid numerical aptitude for handling transactions and managing budgets
Knowledge Required:
- Knowledge of food and beverage operations, including front-of-house and back-of-house processes.
- Knowledge of menu planning, procurement, and supplier management.
- Knowledge of stock control, inventory systems, and cost management.
- Knowledge of health and safety regulations, food hygiene standards, and compliance requirements.
- Knowledge of risk management and workplace safety practices.
- Knowledge of recruitment, training, and staff development processes.
- Knowledge of performance management, disciplinary procedures, and employee engagement strategies.
- Knowledge of setting and monitoring KPIs, targets, and operational goals.
- Knowledge of customer service principles and practices.
- Knowledge of managing customer feedback and implementing service improvements.
- Knowledge of budgeting, financial reporting, and cost control.
- Knowledge of scheduling, rostering, and resource allocation.
- Knowledge of productivity analysis and sales reporting.
- Knowledge of verbal and written communication techniques for internal and external stakeholders.
- Knowledge of conflict management, negotiation, and relationship building.
- Knowledge of point-of-sale (POS) systems, inventory management software, and reporting tools.
