Introduction

We are on the hunt for a seasoned and experienced Warehouse Manager who will be responsible for overseeing daily operations, ensuring the efficient flow of goods from receipt to shipment. The successful incumbent will be fully involved in managing inventory levels, co-ordinating employees, enforcing safety protocols, and analyzing data to improve performance.

Overall, the role requires a combination of strategic planning and hands-on operational oversight to ensure the timely and accurate handling of goods within a complex, highly regulated environment like the Bayhead logistics hub

 

Duties & Responsibilities

Operational Management

  • Oversee all inbound and outbound logistics: managing the receiving, storage, sorting, packing, and dispatch of containerized freight.
  • Inventory Control: implementing robust control systems to ensure inventory integrity, conducting regular stock counts and reconciliations, and minimizing stock losses.
  • Space Optimization: planning the warehouse layout and ensuring efficient space utilization for various types of cargo, potentially including heavy or out-of-gauge items.
  • Process Improvement: driving efficiency and productivity through effective process management and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Equipment Maintenance: ensuring all materials handling equipment (e.g., forklifts), facilities, and vehicles are maintained and in good working condition. 

Compliance and Safety

  • Health and Safety: ensuring full compliance with Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) and all legal requirements, including implementing safety protocols and conducting regular inspections.
  • Regulatory Compliance: ensuring compliance with relevant national and provincial legislation, international SHERQ standards, and specific regulations related to a SARS-licenced and bonded facility, such as customs clearing procedures.
  • Risk Management: safeguarding warehouse operations and contents by establishing security procedures and protocols. 

Staff and Administration

  • Team Leadership: leading and managing a large, potentially unionised, workforce, including staff recruitment, training, scheduling, performance management, and motivation.
  • Coordination: liaising with clients, suppliers, transport companies, and internal departments (e.g., procurement, sales) to ensure smooth operations and timely deliveries.
  • Reporting and Budgeting: analysing performance metrics and preparing reports for management, as well as managing the operational budget and controlling costs. 

Overall, the role requires a combination of strategic planning and hands-on operational oversight to ensure the timely and accurate handling of goods within a complex, highly regulated environment like the Bayhead logistics hub

Desired Experience & Qualification

Supply Chain Management - related qualification

Minimum of 5 years' experience in a similar role or in Supply Chain Management, or related fields.

Proven track record in warehouse management ideally within the logistics or supply chain sector.

Additional qualifications in Logistics and Supply Chain Management, showcasing a strong grasp of industry principles and best practices.

Competencies and Skills Required

Proficiency in MS Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Exceptional warehouse management skills.

Demonstrated ability in managing the day to day operations of a warehouse

Understanding of supply chain processes.

Positive attitude with excellent supply chain acumen.

In-depth knowledge of supply chain principles.

Strategic thinker with planning prowess.

Strong organizational and leadership skills, problem-solving abilities, and experience with warehouse management systems and data analysis tools
