Tractor Driver Job Description

A Tractor Driver is responsible for operating and maintaining tractors and other agricultural or construction machinery to support daily farming, landscaping, or site activities. The role requires strong technical skills, attention to safety, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate tractors and agricultural equipment such as ploughs, seeders, mowers, loaders, and trailers.
  • Transport materials, crops, equipment, or supplies around the farm or worksite.
  • Perform land preparation activities including ploughing, harrowing, planting, and spraying.
  • Assist with harvesting operations using tractor-mounted implements.
  • Carry out routine inspections of the tractor and equipment before and after use.
  • Perform basic maintenance such as cleaning, greasing, checking oil, fuel, hydraulic levels, and reporting faults.
  • Ensure all operations comply with safety protocols and site regulations.
  • Assist with general farm or site work when required, including irrigation setup, fencing, and loading/unloading materials.
  • Keep accurate records of work completed, fuel usage, and equipment conditions.
  • Operate in various weather conditions while maintaining productivity.

Skills and Competencies

  • Ability to operate tractors and related machinery safely and efficiently.
  • Good understanding of mechanical systems and basic maintenance tasks.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work with minimal supervision.
  • Physically fit and able to perform manual labour when required.

Minimum Requirements

  • Valid tractor or heavy-duty equipment operating certificate.
  • Previous experience as a tractor driver or general farm worker is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of health and safety standards in agricultural or construction settings.
  • Willingness to work overtime, weekends, or early mornings when necessary.
