Production Team Leader

Job Advert Summary

Feltex is seeking an experienced Team Leader to provide strong leadership, supervision, and operational control to a production team. The successful incumbent will be responsible for ensuring efficient execution of production activities, adherence to safety and quality standards, and consistent achievement of daily and monthly plant targets in alignment with production plans.

This role plays a key part in supporting operational excellence by coordinating workflow, monitoring performance metrics, optimising resource utilisation, and driving continuous improvement initiatives on the production floor. The Team Leader will also serve as a primary point of contact between production staff and management, foster a culture of teamwork and accountability, and ensure that all production practices align with organisational objectives and compliance requirements.

Minimum Requirements
  • Grade 12
  • Minimum 2 years' working experience in a Automotive manufactoring environment
  • Production Supervisory certificate/Production Management diploma, or the studying towards such a qualification advantageous.
Duties & Responsibilities

Key Performance Areas:

  • Monitor production outputs hourly and takes appropriate action to ensure production standards are being met. Reports sewing output hourly to production supervisor. Corrects any production deviations in consultation with the Production Supervisor.
  • Completes and submits sewing and cutting production records hourly. Full explanation must be provided for not meeting production and quality standards. Production records must be properly maintained and stored.
  • Reports daily to production supervisor on key performances areas such as labour productivity, absenteeism, progress against production plan, rejects, breakdowns and downtime.
  • Undertakes minor repairs to plant and equipment when the need arises.
  • Continuously supervise and lead production teams to achievement of production targets
  • Ensures machine start-up, running and shut-down procedures are adhered to. Reports any abnormalities to the production supervisor immediately.
  • Raises store requisitions through production supervisor for all parts required in production, also responsible for receiving of raw materials, as per production plan.
  • Responsible for ensuring that the quality system requirements and product quality standards are achieved and maintained at all times by the production teams.
  • Perform routine operations on sewing and cutting production equipment in line with work instructions.
  • Prepare and counts stock monthly and enters stock sheets for production's stock report.
  • Ensure manufactured products are prepared for the next production stage or for distribution and/or storage.
  • Notifies Logistics to move produced/assembled parts whenever a production batch is completed.
  • Ensure that finished parts are stacked neatly to facilitate counting and product identification.
  • Ensures continuity of workflow at each assigned workstation by visually checking that raw material, sub-assemblies and equipment are available.
  • Ensures that all required equipment is available by regularly inspecting equipment at the workstations.
  • Ensures that workmanship of sewing/cutting production meets the quality standards by visually checking on products manufactured and correcting/reporting any deviations.
  • Ensure that rework is undertaken of defective parts and investigates the reasons and proposes methods to eliminate re-occurrences.
