Chief Financial Officer

The successful candidate will play a crucial role in the Rail / Engineering Industry, combining strategic financial leadership underpinned by a strong technical understanding of financial accounting principles as well as financial legislation such as PFMA etc.

Reporting to : CEO

High-Level Requirements:

Proven experience as a CFO in engineering or related industries.

Strategic financial leadership

Experience working in a project environment.

Technical proficiency to navigate complex financial structures and systems.

Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

Strong communication and leadership abilities.

Demonstrated ability to drive financial performance and contribute to overall business strategy.

Relevant educational qualifications, such as a professional accounting designation (e.g. CA(SA), CIMA).

DUTIES:

Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A):

Develop and oversee the company's financial planning processes.

Analyze financial performance and create forecasts, budgets, and financial models.

Financial Reporting:

Ensure accurate and timely preparation of financial statements in accordance with relevant accounting standards. Communicate financial results to stakeholders, including the directors, investors, and management.

Cash Management:

Monitor cash flow and liquidity to ensure the company meets its financial obligations. Implement strategies to optimize cash resources.

Risk Management:

Identify and assess financial risks. Develop risk mitigation strategies and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.

Costing of Products/Services:

Determine the cost of specific parts, understanding both direct and indirect costs involved in the process. Allocate overhead costs to specific products or services based on a systematic method, allowing for a more accurate determination of product/service profitability.

Inventory Valuation:

Establish accurate values for inventory items, considering direct material costs, direct labor costs, and allocated overhead.

Treasury Functions:

Manage relationships with banks and financial institutions.

Oversee investment strategies and optimize returns on surplus funds.

Financial Compliance:

Ensure compliance with relevant financial regulations and standards.

Collaborate with auditors and manage the audit process.

Cost Management:

Analyze and control costs to improve efficiency and profitability.

Implement cost reduction initiatives when necessary.

Tax Management:

Develop and implement tax strategies to optimize the company's tax position.

Ensure compliance with tax regulations.

Capital Structure and Financing:

Evaluate and recommend financing options.

Manage the company's capital structure to optimize financial performance.

Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A):

Assess potential mergers, acquisitions, or divestitures.

Oversee due diligence processes and negotiate financial terms.

Financial Systems and Technology:

Implement and manage financial systems and technologies to improve efficiency.

Ensure the integrity and security of financial data.

Internal Controls:

Develop and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure accurate financial reporting.

Monitor compliance with internal control policies.

Investor Relations:

Communicate with investors and analysts regarding financial performance.

Participate in earnings calls, investor presentations, and conferences.

Strategic Financial Leadership:

Provide strategic financial guidance to the CEO and board of directors.

Contribute to the development and execution of the company's overall strategy.

Management of Finance Team:

Lead a high-performing finance function.

Provide mentorship and guidance to finance professionals.
