Job Description

An accounting firm based in London, UK, is looking for an Accountant to join their team remotely from South Africa.

In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the client's VAT and IT compliance, including accurate submission of VAT returns, advising on VAT-related matters, and identifying process improvement opportunities. The position involves maintaining strong relationships with clients and relevant authorities while supporting the continuous improvement of internal systems and workflows.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee all aspects of VAT and IT compliance, ensuring accurate calculation and timely submission of returns.
  • Review transactions to confirm correct VAT treatment on sales and purchases, and provide advice on complex VAT matters.
  • Deliver VAT-related training and guidance to clients and internal staff.
  • Process late claims, year-end adjustments, and manual returns when required.
  • Maintain and update compliance workflows, client records, and system configurations.
  • Support the onboarding of new VAT clients, including registration, authorisation, and documentation.
  • Act as the main point of contact for client VAT queries and provide proactive compliance advice.
  • Liaise with tax authorities on VAT issues, audits, and correspondence.
  • Assist management with complex or unfamiliar VAT and compliance cases.
  • Manage and optimise accounting and workflow systems to ensure efficiency and data accuracy.
  • Collaborate with software providers to resolve technical issues and implement best practices.
  • Oversee client data connections and reporting schedules to maintain accurate records.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Qualified Professional Accountant (SA)
  • 3 - 5 years of total accounting experience
  • Recent accounting practice experience is a requirement
  • Xero and Dext experience is a must
  • HMRC experience will be very beneficial

Salary

  • R R37 000 CTC / month
