About the Opportunity

Ngcobo Technologies is inviting applications from qualified architectural graduates or junior architects to take part in a design evaluation project for a proposed 12-story, 122-unit residential apartment building.

This exercise forms part of our selection process to identify a candidate who will later be contracted to lead or assist with the architectural design and submission process for the full development.

The Design Test

Applicants will be required to prepare a concept proposal demonstrating their creative and technical approach to the project. This is an evaluation only and not a paid commission. Submitted work will not be used, built, or replicated without the creator's consent.

Project Overview:

Building Type: 12-story residential apartment block

Total Units: ±122 apartments

Unit Mix: Studio, 1-bedroom, 2-bedroom, and 3-bedroom apartments

Key Focus Areas:

Functional unit layout variety across floors

Efficient vertical and horizontal circulation (stairs, lifts, corridors)

Natural lighting and ventilation

Aesthetic façade concept and massing

Site response (orientation, access, parking concept, landscaping)

Deliverables:

1 x Site layout / massing plan (PDF)

1 x Typical floor plan with unit mix indicated

1 x Elevation or 3D façade concept

1 x Short design rationale (max 300 words)

Shortlisted candidates may be invited to an interview or design presentation. The selected candidate will be formally contracted to continue the project into detailed design and council submission stages.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree or diploma in Architecture or Architectural Technology

Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, or ArchiCAD

Creative problem-solving and strong presentation skills

Basic understanding of zoning and building regulations

SACAP registration (or student registration) preferred

Portfolio of academic or professional work
