Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site role for a Level 3 IT Engineer located in the City of Johannesburg. The IT Engineer will be responsible for providing advanced technical support, troubleshooting complex issues, and maintaining network security. The role involves daily tasks such as configuring and managing IT systems, ensuring network stability, and implementing effective IT solutions to meet clients' needs.

Key Responsibilities

Advanced Troubleshooting:

  • Diagnose and resolve escalated issues in routing/switching (BGP, OSPF), firewalls (Cisco ASA, Palo Alto), VPNs, and network performance.
  • Conduct root-cause analysis for security breaches, DDoS attacks, or persistent vulnerabilities.

Security Management:

  • Implement/configure security tools (IDS/IPS, SIEM, endpoint protection).
  • Lead incident response, vulnerability assessments, and compliance audits (e.g., PCI DSS, GDPR).

Infrastructure Optimization:

  • Design and deploy network/Security upgrades (e.g., Zero Trust, SD-WAN).
  • Automate tasks via scripting (Python, Bash) or tools (Ansible).

Collaboration & Leadership:

  • Mentor Tier 1/2 staff and collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., Cloud, DevOps).
  • Manage vendor relationships for hardware/software escalations.

Documentation & Compliance:

  • Maintain runbooks, incident reports, and network diagrams.
  • Ensure adherence to organizational security policies.

  • ISO27001 knowledge

  • On-Call Support:

  • Participate in 24/7 on-call rotations for critical outages.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CCIE, CISSP, or CISM certifications.
  • Experience with Zero Trust Architecture, automation tools (Puppet), or DevOps practices.

Qualifications

  • Proficiency in Troubleshooting and Advanced Technical Support
  • Advanced knowledge in Information Technology and Networking
  • Experience in Network Security
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field
  • Certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, or equivalent are a plus
  • Experience in working with diverse industry clients
  • Education: Bachelor's in IT, Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
  • Certifications: CCNA/CCNP, CompTIA Security+, CEH, or CISSP (preferred).
  • Experience: 7+ years in network/security roles, including 5+ years in Level 3 support.
  • Technical Skills:
  • Expert in firewalls, VPNs, SIEM (Splunk), and monitoring tools (SolarWinds).
  • Proficiency in cloud platforms (AWS/Azure) and SD-WAN.
  • Soft Skills: Strong analytical, communication, and leadership abilities.
