Job Function:

To drive the establishment and shaping of business unit compliance to corporate and government health and safety regulations. Ensure that applicable policies are up to date and implement initiatives that improve the safety of the working environment and reduction in hazards. Ensure that the business unit uphold and work towards finding new, innovative and economically reductive ways to stay green. Develop, implement and monitor business unit environmental strategies. Responsible for communicating plans, formulating budgets and marketing green strategies to vendors, customers and colleagues.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Implement corporate governance and compliance policies to manage risk liabilities.
  • Analyze, interpret and produce detailed reports explaining trends, discrepancies and inconsistencies measured against planned activities.
  • Develop and ensure implementation of people capacity plans in line with performance objectives.
  • Develop initiatives to enhance customer service excellence.
  • Oversee and coordinate the safety and health governance processes.
  • Ensure the establishment of a safe work environment to protect the health of staff and visitors.
  • Management and handling of hazardous elements like chemical, physical, radiological, and biological in the workplace.
  • Develop, implement and monitor a health and safety policy, programs and plans.
  • Ensure company rules and policies are followed while working on a health and safety project.
  • Predict all kinds of potential risks (accidents, diseases, etc), identify their causes and recommend measures to prevent or minimize them.
  • Work with operating companies to report all critical emergencies, accidents, and staff complaints to the management and investigate such causes.
  • Set up emergency plans and educate all employees on how to handle such situations.
  • Increase health and safety awareness across all levels and operating companies.
  • Lead and assist colleagues at all levels in carrying out health and safety measures.
  • Coordinate and deal with health and safety committees, department of labour, government bodies and regulating agencies.
  • Prepare budget proposals for the operation of health and safety measures, programs and other requirements.
  • Create and implement strategies for a greener workplace.
  • Communicate and market sustainability campaigns to internal and external stakeholders within the business unit.
  • Partner with HR, colleagues, vendors and press to educate and inform them of the changes to be implemented and their impact on the environment and workplace.
  • Measure business unit sustainability performance.
  • Analyse and audit wastage Provide and implement solutions based on the pros and cons of the solution.
  • Implement and manage workforce planning, recruitment, learning and development, performance management, reward and recognition and employee relations to ensure an optimal working environment.
  • Create an engaging, enabling and productive work climate aligned to the employee value proposition by demonstrating leadership through personal commitment to organisational values.
  • Develop a plan for practice changes and specify the priorities of delivery plans and resources needed 1 to 2 years.
  • Contribute to the setting of budgets, minimise expenditure and manage costs and assets effectively.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with relevant stakeholders that contributes to a culture of customer service excellence.

Qualifications:

  • Honours degree (NQF Level 8).

Skills and Experience:

  • Up to 8 years of experience in a similar environment with at least 5 years operational leadership experience.
