Professor/associate Professor

The Department of Medical Biosciences is comprised of the three inter-related disciplines of Physiology, Anatomy and Medical Microbiology. Housed within the Faculty of Science, the Department offers service courses to the Faculties of Dentistry, Community and Health Sciences and the School of Pharmacy at the undergraduate level and across Faculties at the postgraduate level. - Facilitate learning and teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in Anatomy (including gross anatomy, histology, embryology and related physiology). - Conduct research and publish in the fields related to Anatomy. - Undertake undergraduate and postgraduate supervision. - Provide academic leadership. - Undertake curriculum development and assessment. - Participate in community engagement and outreach Ability to teach both small and large classes (>100 students) from diverse backgrounds. - Ability to teach students from different Faculties and disciplines. - Be available to assist students from different educational backgrounds. - Joining and/or driving the research vision of the Department through an active research programme including an ability to raise research funding and supervise Honours, Masters and Doctoral students. - Play a role in the administrative activities of the Department, Faculty and the university. - Fulfil any other duties as assigned by the Head of Department. **Minimum Requirements** **Minimum Requirements - Professor** - PhD or equivalent, preferably in the field of Human Anatomy or Physiology with a proven focus on Anatomy. - Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) or other approved professional bodies, will be an advantage. - Demonstrated experience in facilitating learning and teaching, preferably in the field of Anatomy (including gross anatomy, histology, embryology and related physiology). - A record of quality peer reviewed publications, preferably in the field of Anatomy. - A record of successful postgraduate supervision. - Evidence of expertise, national standing, and definite international presence in his/her discipline. - The integration of community engagement with learning and teaching and/or research. - Experience in generating research grants. **Minimum Requirements - Associate Professor** - PhD or equivalent, preferably in the field of Human Anatomy or Physiology with a proven focus on Anatomy. - Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) or other approved professional bodies, will be an advantage. - Demonstrated experience in facilitating learning and teaching, preferably in the field of Anatomy (including gross anatomy, histology, embryology and related physiology). - A record of quality peer reviewed publications, preferably in the field of Anatomy. - A record of successful postgraduate supervision. - The integration of community engagement with learning and teaching and/or research. - Evidence of expertise, national standing, and preferably an international presence in his/her discipline. **Key Competencies** - Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English - Presentation and facilitation skills - Adaptability and the ability to operate in a diverse environment - Student focused approach - Coaching and mentoring skills - Planning and organising skills - Computer literacy and e-learning skills - Technical professional knowledge and skills in the discipline and in the core strategic areas, namely learning and teaching, research and scholarship, community engagement as well as professional leadership.- Send to a Friend
