include:

- Environmental health and safety at all premises of the University of the Western Cape.
- Compliance with relevant legislation
- Accountable for environmental health functions
- Perform routine and surprise inspections to assess compliance with Occupational Health and Safety and other relevant legislation
- Perform food hygiene and food standard inspections.
- Execute and report health and safety investigations.
- Responsible for ensuring health surveillances.
- Investigate outbreaks of infectious disease and develop programs prevent it from spreading.
- Monitoring health and hygiene legislation, such as pollution management, pest control management and food safety management.
- Develop programs and guidelines to water use management.
- Monitor levels of noise, air, land and water pollution.
- Advise on health, safety and environmental elements to new buildings and developments.
- Guide and monitor hazardous waste minimization programs.
- Provide reports to management and various governance structures.

**Minimum Requirements**
- A matric certificate
- A National Diploma/B Tech in Environmental Health
- Valid Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA). Proof must be attached
- At least 3 years relevant experience in environmental health services
- A valid driver’s license - proof must be attached
- Basic computer skills and competency with Microsoft Office

Competencies:

- Must be self-motivated and able to work independently
- Good communication skills, diplomacy, advocacy and negotiation skill
- Strong planning and organizing skills
- Working knowledge of relevant environmental health legislation
- Basic computer skills and competency with Microsoft Office
