Our client currently has an opportunity for a Chief Commercial Officer reporting to the CEO.

The successful incumbent will be responsible for Developing departmental strategy and operating model, stakeholder management/relationship framework aligned to company stakeholder strategy; and provides:
1. Being the primary custodian of the Supply Chain Management Policy and related procedures.

2. Having commercial oversight with the primary responsibility in the end-to-end procurement management process, including tenders and subsequent management of concluding contracts with successful tenderers;
3. Being the primary custodian of the non-Human Resource Management sections of the SLP and Mining Charter, ensuring compliance and performance against the specific annual requirements and reporting.

Job description / core competencies:
Ensures best practice service delivery by:
Implementing and managing commercial strategies that ensure delivery of manganese products into the market according to targets set.

Building and maintaining relationships with key internal interest groups and departments.

Contributing to the company’s competitive edge through external networking and benchmarking in national industry forums.

In consultation with relevant departmental heads and EXCO, managing engagement with stakeholders across local authorities, government, statutory and non-statutory bodies, industry & business, land & property, communities, and other parties to establish strong working relationships.

Optimises systems and processes by:
Conducting regular commercial practice audits to identify opportunities for improvement.

Driving continuous system improvement processes.

Targeting process optimisation towards the company’s strategic advantage / competitive edge.

Conducting market, competitor, and macro-level economic analyses.

Mapping business processes to evaluate lines of business for expansion.

Providing briefings and support to the business for meetings with stakeholders.

Ensuring accurate audit trails of all stakeholder engagements and all contact/activities are recorded on a stakeholder database.

Operational Management Oversees by:
Determining the business value chain, aligned, and integrated with the Company strategy and business plan.

By taking primary responsibility for identifying future business opportunities and preparing professional tenders that suitably reduce risk and are competitively priced. Managing contract finalisation, pricing, logistics and execution.

Preparing and managing workshops, roundtables, and forum logistics, including developing agendas, project plans, minute taking and production of reports.

Attending face-to-face meetings, collaborative planning workshops and reporting on progress.

Provide input and compile useful reports for Board, Board Committee and Exco submissions.

Prepares and works within approved operational and Capex budget constraints.

Reporting on cost variances and devising ways of mitigating negative variations.

People Management:
Ensures ongoing effective management of staff and outsourced personnel by:
Implementing established HR policies and practices.

Establishing effective communication processes to ensure understanding of and “buy-in” to the company’s goals and aspirations.

Implementing succession planning, performance management, and skill and career development processes.

Critical Success Factors

Proper alignment of the company value chain with annual business plans.

Maintaining critical stakeholder relationships that enhance competitive advantage.

Smooth and effective operation of Supply Chain Management.

Compliance with regulatory, licensed and permitted requirements with the appropriate reporting effected timeously.

Decisions and Judgements (Limits of authority).

Has authority to create or change procedures and “rules” within own functional area.

To approve initiatives in the execution of the mine community development plan and the procurement progression plan.

Challenges and Demands of the job

Adapting the Commercial and Stakeholder Engagement function to serve the requirements of the company - Focus on contracting process management, master data management, enterprise, and supplier development.

Driving competitive advantage through the focus areas of the function.

Able to Lobby government, communities and local municipalities to support key initiatives in line with local development and infrastructure.

Communications and Stakeholder Relationships

Internal stakeholders:
Board and Board Committees for procurement, logistics, stakeholder management and social development.

Provides information as required.

CEO and EXCO: Collaborates/cooperates with EXCO colleagues and reports on achievement of agreed targets.

External stakeholders:
Company Vendors.
