Duties/Pligte
Maintaining and managing all computers, servers and related technology used throughout the FMHSCUA environment, including electronic classrooms and satellite areas, Stikland

Psychiatric Hospital, Clinical Assistants Computer Centre (Tygerberg Hospital), and standby support for the Worcester Campus and Ukwanda nodes.

The position requires high-level problem-solving and adaptive ability, the ability to work independently, without supervision, under pressure within deadlines, and a broad range of

knowledge and intuitive understanding within the following areas: virtualisation, virtual desktop infrastructure, networking and operating a computer centre within an academic

environment.
- Providing software support for all software (including Windows 10/11, Office 2016/365, Exchange, Internet and Moodle, VMWare virtualisation) used within the facilities,

which requires general knowledge of all packages;
- Providing assistance and troubleshooting for students and personnel members with hardware and software issues, primarily within the context of computer facilities;
- Managing and overseeing junior technical support personnel within computer facilities;
- Providing technical support, management and maintenance for the entire virtualisation environment of the facilities and satellite areas, including setup of virtual

environments, servers, virtual desktop infrastructure and secure wireless management.;
- Providing standby support to Worcester Campus;
- Responsible for computer maintenance, setting up and installing new computers, virtual machines, locating and diagnosing faults and reporting to any external support

providers, administration of service records/reports, setting up servers (physical and virtual) to manage all aspects of computer centre services;
- Domain administration (Microsoft AD) for all computers and servers within the facility, including policy and security enforcement to meet Information Technology

requirements and Faculty policies;
- Monitoring and maintaining the camera security system.;
Desktop environment preparation for e-assessments, as well as knowledge transference of skills to junior personnel to act as deputies/second line support;
- Evaluating all potential new technology from hardware/software vendors. Reporting and assessment to vendors and management within the broader e-Learning/teaching

strategy of the Faculty.

Job Requirements/Pos Vereistes
- A+, MCP, or more than two years' experience with Microsoft Products, especially OS and server platforms;
- A valid Code B or EB driver's licence;
- Proven computer literacy;
- Proven broad knowledge of ICT and an understanding of the teaching process.

Recommendation/Aanbeveling
- ICT-related qualification or training (e.g. MCSE, MCSA), or higher-level technical certificate or diploma in technical and/or user support;
- Patch management, Virtualisation and Application Streaming software certification, or equivalent experience such as VMWare, or Citrix XenDesk, or equivalent

virtualisation/VDI environments;
- Experience with the Linux operating system;
- N+/Cisco, CNE network administration experience or certification;
- Strong language and communication skills in English and Afrikaans, especially for communication with students, lecturers and clients;
- The ability to work without supervision;
- The ability to solve technical problems independently;
- Excellent organisational skills, time management and environmental tidiness.
