Data Protection Monitoring Specialist

**Job Description and Responsibilities**:

- Design Data Protection Monitoring Plans and Questionnaires and roll out to business departments.
- To support Data Protection Monitoring assessments of business departments and business initiatives in respect of Data Protection and Privacy responsibilities.
- Support Design of business data protection strategy as well as implementation of necessary technical organizational measures (TOMs) in respect to Data Protection and Privacy responsibilities.
- Support development and implementation of data protection and privacy compliance training.
- Partner with the business / departments to support compliance of local data protection and privacy rules and regulations (Protection of Personal Information Act) as well as with the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) as far as applicable.
- Support VWSA’s data protection / privacy compliance response processes in cooperation with internal legal counsel.
- Support legal department engagement in company and industry automotive data protection and privacy compliance initiatives.
- Assist in evaluating data protection / privacy compliance technology as well as capturing, maintaining and analyzing respective data
- Keep abreast of respective local and international regulatory legal developments, trends and guidelines in data and privacy risk. Analyze proposed and newly enacted laws, regulations and guidance for their impact on the company’s existing processes, as it relates to data and privacy risk
- Liaise with external law firms, consultants and vendors, as related to data and privacy risk matters (is this a supporting role to the manager/doing?)
- Advise management and business departments regarding ongoing data protection and privacy assessments
- Construct, implement and lead special assignments and projects regarding data protection and privacy compliance matters
- Stay up to date on all respective industry trends (in connection with data protection and privacy compliance) with ongoing training and development
- Partner with Group Data Protection - Monitoring (K-SDM) of Volkswagen Group in order to enable a constant exchange of ideas, developments and trends of all matters regarding data protection and privacy compliance

**Education and Experience**:

- LLB, Post Graduate qualifications in the various fields of regulatory compliance, business studies, cybersecurity, or other applicable degree
- A minimum of 3 years in data privacy law, cybersecurity, compliance monitoring or commercial law (post admission) or a minimum of 3 years relevant working experience

**Skills, Attributes & Other requirements**:
ESSENTIAL:

- Design and preparation of compliance monitoring plans and questionnaires
- Highly developed communication skills for the assessment process in order to successfully lead discussions with auditees as well as communication with various management levels and business departments
- Extensive knowledge of data protection committees and their meaning, tasks and roles in the company and groups Data Protection/Security Management Organization (DSMO)
- In-depth knowledge of technical organizational measures (TOMs)
- In-depth knowledge of ICS (Internal Control System) and RMS (Risk Management Systems) including the related System Risk Radar pertaining to data protection and privacy compliance issues
- In-depth knowledge of local (and required international) data protection and privacy compliance legal basis and reliable ability to assess lawfulness and admissibility
- Knowledge of the data protection legislation in Sub Saharan African countries
- Ability to execute projects and assessments in a fluid, fast-paced environment
- Strong inter-personal skills, ability to collaborate with business colleagues on legal and regulative topics
- Solid teamwork skills, ability to build and leverage the capabilities of a high-performing team
- Highly detailed-oriented
- The identification of risks and countermeasures.
- Ability to present relevant training, specific to the needs and requirements of VWSA.
