**Job Purpose**:
To undertake high level technical functions associated with the fire safety function relative to major hazard installations.

**Key Responsibility Areas**:
Attends to the fire safety functions pertaining to the major hazard installations in the department.

Receiving notification from the industry to erect new or convert an existing installation and to major hazard installation.

Assessing risk assssments submitted in terms of the major hazard installation regulations.

Implementing offsite planning in respect of MHIs in terms of the MHI Regulations.

Directing Emergengy Planning Officers to liaise and facilitate emergency plans with industry safety officers.

Receiving reports of emergency occurrence and notifying the task group directly, circulate and file the written reports received.

Managing the disposition and work efficiency of Emergency Planning Officers.

**Essential Requirements**:
Relevant 3 year tertiary qualification in Chemical Engineering or Equivalent.

Valid motor vehicle driving license (Code B).

4 Years relevant experience in industrial risk assessment with an approved institution or equivalent.

**Preferred Requirements**:
Relevant post graduate qualification in Chemical Engineering or Equivalent.

6 Years relevant experience in industrial risk assessment with an approved institution or equivalent.

Special Conditions:
Must be prepared to work anywhere within the area of authority having jurisdiction.
Must perform standby duties and duties outside normal office hours.
Required to work in hazardous locations and areas e.g above grade and on chemical plant premises.
Maintain an effective relationship with those contacted during the course of duties.
Incumbent will be required to accept statutory appointment in terms of extant legislation.
Incumbent must be prepared to submit to medical monitoring as required by extant legislation and sound working practice.
