well rounded individual who is resourceful in doing what is required to get the job done safely and effectively
and will take initiative when left their own.

**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS**

**A National Senior Certificate.**
**Trade tested Fitter or Fitter & Turner.**
**A minimum of 6 years’ experience as a red seal artisan in a maintenance/plant environment.**
**Must have at least 2 years’ experience in heavy manufacturing / paper, tissue mill environment as an Artisan.**

Have a sound technical ability, focus on mechanical, but multidisciplinary knowledge of manufacturing plant and
process is expected.
Have a sound knowledge of the OSH Act and Regulations - High safety awareness.
Have expert knowledge of mechanical fitting basics (belts, rolls, pulleys, bearings, couplings, bushes, shafts,
fits/tolerances/clearances/floats, gearboxes, hydraulics, pumps, pneumatics, seals, stripping & assembly, Fitment and alignments etc). - Practical pump assembly skills and troubleshooting are highly advantageous.
Have strong knowledge in maintenance management on an Artisan level - Execution of work orders, task
specific planning, managing own spares & consumables, kitting & staging, managing tools, feedback &
reporting, escalating problems, liaison with production, Root Cause Analysis, shutdowns, projects and
breakdowns etc.
Have strong knowledge and practical skills on general machine shop work (lathe’s, milling machine, presses,
grinders, welding etc).
Have a fair understanding of a DCS system and basic control logic (electrical & instrument control
understanding).
Must show exceptional trouble shooting, fault finding and problem-solving skills (structured approach to
problem solving).
Computer literacy highly beneficial.

Own Transport to attend breakdowns and planned maintenance shuts after hours.
A valid driver’s license.
Should be willing to relocate if out of local area.

**KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS**

**Safety**

Adhere to government legislation regarding all mechanical and electrical installations and the company HSSE policies and procedures.
Communicate and participate in relevant safety programs.
Actively coach and sensitize co-worker and team members regarding safety concerns, incidents and experiences.
Ensure procedures are drawn up, implemented and maintained and reviewed where there are gaps.
Keep updated on legal requirements and legislation.
Strive to ensure a consistent zero-injury rate.
Ensure the integrity of all safety devices on all machines and equipment.
Ensure that all work undertaken complies with the OSH Act and relevant legislation,
requesting support where unsure and reporting where non-compliance is observed.
Identify and report potential risks or issues concerning machines, equipment or personnel
that could lead to financial or operational damage.

**Productivity**

Implement and perform scheduled maintenance routines.

Ensure that maintenance on machines, equipment and buildings are performed on a
continuous basis.
Ensure shutdowns are planned and executed correctly.
Involvement in new projects and implementation.
Ensure sound/quality corrective actions in the event of breakdowns.
Actively work to deduce planned and unplanned down time and reduce the amount of rework.
Ensure the availability of necessary spares.

**Quality**

Ensure that all machines and equipment are in good working order to prevent quality
defects.
Ensure that workmanship is of the highest standard, prevent rework and unnecessary
downtime.
Actively participate in contributing to the quality of standard around all aspects of the
organization.
