To support its growth, AP has been developing a landscape of systems and technologies over the years, that cater to both the operational needs of the parks (connectivity and networks; Earth Ranger and GIS; tracking devices; power dimensioning and monitoring) and the institutional platform (various ERP systems for finance, HR, procurement; security; cloud computing). As it stands today, this landscape systems still shows some gaps and there are opportunities for systems to integrate and to operate more efficiently.
**African Parks is seeking a full-time Systems Manager to be based in the head office in Johannesburg, South Africa, to**:
**1) Oversee the integration of AP's systems into a central data warehouse, maintaining the associated data pipelines, models and hygiene;**
**2) Close the gaps in African Parks' systems landscape and improve the existing systems. This includes but is not limited to inventory, procurement, asset management, HR, GIS, conservation technology, data collection systems, etc.**
**The role requires both strong data engineering and systems design expertise as well an ability to keep a helicopter view and work with internal stakeholders to understand their needs and manage change.**
This position, available immediately, is an exciting opportunity to work with a unique conservation organisation dedicated to protecting Africa’s nature, for the benefit of people and wildlife.
**Key responsibilities**
- Provide strategic oversight and drive the implementation of AP’s system of systems.
- Work with various departments to grasp internal needs for AP's systems landscape, as well as functional requirements for new systems.
- Develop and manage a data warehouse and integrate ETL data pipelines from various source systems to roll-out a central information platform/dashboard. A third-party service provider can be contracted for the development phase, overseen by the Systems Manager.
- Manage all external relationships with service provides to ensure (new) systems match AP needs and integrate into central warehouse.
- Compare and identify possible system solutions and opportunities for integration between systems.
- Drive the Import and export of data and creation of analytical reports for managers.
- Oversee system administration and monitoring, as well as user training and support.
- Implement change management procedures with internal stakeholders as new systems are implemented.
**Qualifications and skills required**
- Have a deep understanding of information systems.
- Strong experience managing Data (ETL) pipelines and APIs
- Experience developing data lakes & warehouses
- Experience with the Microsoft suite, especially Azure, is preferential
- Experience in implementing ERP systems within a multi-national context
- Experience with project management.
- Have good people and relationship management skills.
- Be effective in leading meetings and capturing user requirements.
- Have programming skills such as Python, JavaScript, C++, SQL, R.
- Have a passion for conservation
- Be a self-starter that requires little oversight
