Data Analyst

**Who are we?**

Sanlam Life and Savings (SLS) is focused on serving our retail and corporate clients in South Africa and further developing our strategic advantages in the South African market. Sanlam Life and Savings consists of the following business units Retail Mass, Corporate, Risk and Savings, Glacier and various business enabling functions. The Sanlam Life and Savings Office provides strategic direction, coordination and support to the four clusters, as well as performing governance oversight that includes assurance provided by second line of defense functions in SLS, to enable us to meet our business objectives.

**What will you do?**

**Data Preparation**:

- Independently acquire data from various data sources and combine & transform data into interpretable datasets, reports, or dashboards.
- Assess the effectiveness and accuracy of new data sources and data gathering techniques, and extend the company’s data with third-party sources of information when required.
- Independently process, cleanse, and verify the integrity of data used for analysis.

**Analysis and Visualization**:

- Independently interpret data, analyse results using analytical techniques, and provide reports and/or dashboards.
- Identify, analyse, and interpret trends or patterns in complex data sets and use data to answer key questions about the business.
- Own and maintain dashboards, ongoing reporting, and ad hoc requests from the organization.

**Stakeholder Engagement**:

- Work directly with management and other business users to gather requirements, provide status updates, and build relationships.
- Present information using data visualization techniques independently.

**What will make you successful in this role?**

**Requirements**:

- Bachelor's degree in information systems, statistics, data or computer science/engineering or equivalent.
- 2-4 years of experience performing data analytics.
- Strong knowledge of reporting packages, databases, querying, and visualizing/presenting data for stakeholder use.
- Tableau / similar dashboarding and visualisation tools: Intermediate to experienced level beneficial.
- SQL coding / similar analysis for data querying and transformation: Intermediate to experienced level beneficial.
- Cloudera, SAP HANA: Exposure to intermediate level would be beneficial.
- Snowflake / similar cloud platforms: Exposure beneficial.
- Any certifications in the above would be advantageous.
- Business experience in financial services is an advantage.
