**Entity and activity description**
Air Liquide started its business in South Africa over 60 years ago and employs more than 600 people today. Air Liquide supplies industrial and specialty gases to the steel, automotive and fabrication, food and beverage, mining, petrochemical, pharmaceutical and glass industries. It also supplies medical gases through a network of many state and private hospitals as well as solutions and services to home based patients.
ALLISA is a separate entity from all current Air Liquide entities in South Africa and reports directly to the AMEI Hub, with its own set of policies and procedures as well as compensation structure. This position is based in Secunda.
**Missions and Responsibilities**
The Health and Safety Practitioner will be responsible to maintain, implement and execute the Occupational Health & Safety program and facilitate the management and quality assurance of the Health & Safety function within the business value chain in a risk-based, proactive manner, as directed by the Air Liquide Large Industries South Africa HSE Excellence Approach. His /her main activities will include:
**Business/Functional.**
- Develop and execute operational, shutdown and other issue-based safety plans and ensure that work activities are in line with the HSE plan focus areas.
- Identify non-conformances (including incidents), and conduct investigations, root-cause analysis and the identification of personal, workplace and organisational factors.
- Facilitate the identification of Occupational safety hazards, risks, key undesirable events and the associated preventive and corrective controls. Facilitate workplace risk-assessments (baseline, continuous and issue-based). Recommend and facilitate the execution of risk-based workplace occupational safety improvement interventions.
- Conduct focused safety audits (e.g. Plant inspections, Permit to Work audits, COVID-19 audits, legal appointment audits, field verification and housekeeping audits etc.) and conduct risk-based assurance audits with focus on group and critical controls.
- Identify incident and injury trends and recommend and monitor mitigating and control measures.
**Stakeholder Management and Communication.**
- Facilitate safety discussions (toolbox talks, safety meetings or stand-downs) and engage with internal and external stakeholders to ensure alignment with HSE requirements. Build and sustain positive internal and external stakeholder relationships to accomplish the ALLISA SHE execution plan.
**Competencies and Profile** Educational requirements**
- B-Tech or B-Degree in Safety Management/Chemical Engineering **OR **National Diploma in Safety Management/Chemical Engineering
- Relevant HSE certification is a plus.
**Experience**
- (5) years experience in a HSE operational environment
**Knowledge and Know-how specific to the job**
- Must have a strong knowledge and understanding of the SHE Policy, Strategic Objectives, SHE Process Modeling and Business processes
- Must have a strong knowledge and understanding of SHE Legislation and Regulations, Policies, Procedures, Standards and Processes
- Must have a strong knowledge of SHE Risk Assessment and Management, SHE Audits/Inspections, Occupational Safety and Hazards Control and Incident Classification, Investigation and Reporting
