Director - Clinical Development Centre, South Africa

**The Position**

Taking on this role is a unique opportunity to make meaningful impact in a clinical development centre that contributes to global clinical trial execution.

As Clinical Director, you provide overall leadership for the Clinical Development Team in South Africa. You help to oversee the entire process of delivering on successful implementation of clinical trials allocated to South Africa.

You will be responsible for the coordination of several clinical trials within one or more development programmes. Further, you will represent CDC-ZA on a number of Global Project Teams, being accountable for accomplishing clinical trial execution in South Africa. Additionally, you will be responsible for determining what trials are feasible for South Africa, and for the planning and allocation of the needed resources for clinical trials that will be rolled-out in South Africa including the general oversight on the maintenance and conclusion of trials that are currently running.

As line manager, you will ensure competency development and performance management by coaching and guiding your team members, setting expectations, and leading the team to success.

It is expected that you lead the implementation of the trial management strategy, proactively ensure relevant change management activities and role mode the Novo Nordisk Way.

The position is based in Sandton, Johannesburg in South Africa. Some travelling for meetings can be expected.

**Qualifications**

We are looking for a leader who motivates, inspires, sets clear directions for a highly motivated and skilled team, and enhances clinical research capabilities while ensuring team well-being. The CDC Director should have a strong knowledge of the local regulatory environment with extensive industry networks and, should be capable of strengthening the identity of Novo Nordisk CDC -ZA externally with key regulatory stakeholders and investigators.

You hold a Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy, Life Sciences and should have a minimum of 8 years of experience working with clinical trials in various settings. You have previous experience (minimum of 4 - 5 years) with line management and project management. It is also expected that you have experience with the operational aspects of planning and conducting global clinical trials.

You are familiar with cross-organisational and global work and can navigate well in a project-driven matrix organisation.

It is expected that you have the ability to inspire and motivate employees to do their best while having an organised and structured approach to leading employees. Preferably, you have previous experience with and can navigate well during organisational transformations.

**About the department**

Working with the clinical trial team in South Africa and collaborating across SEEMEA and International Operations, you will join a dedicated local team of 44 Clinical professionals on a mission to create better treatments and care for patients with Diabetes, Obesity, Rare Disease and the new therapeutic areas (CVD, Alzheimer’s Disease, NASH, Sickle Cell Disease) that Novo Nordisk is investing in.

You will be reporting to a Clinical, Medical & Regulatory Director for South Africa. Your reports will be 3 Clinical Research Managers (Line Managers for CRAs, CTAs, Trial Managers and Start-Up professionals) and 2 Quality/Training Managers.
