**PURPOSE**
Manage and guide a team of electrical and mechanical engineering staff in carrying out electro mechanical engineering designs
relating to water and sanitation services in a professional, efficient and cost-effective manner to ensure the planning, design and
implementation processes of these capital projects are well. Review of all reports / designs / drawings / contract /Tender documents management, related specifications. Manage all other
facets of the portfolio including the financial, human resources, projects timeframes, compliance to relevant legal frameworks and
quality specifications.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**
Manage and guide engineering investigations and ensure the necessary site investigations and surveys are carried out by the
team. Identify any specialist input required during project designs and report to the Chief Engineer Bulk Waste Water to initiate
procurement process. Review project specifications to ensure compliance with the SANS1200 series, Johannesburg Water
Design standards and any other relevant specification. Review and confirm the cost breakdown in the schedules of quantities to
ensure realistic cost estimates are compiled. Manage and monitor that contracts are administered as per the conditions of the
contract. Review project tasks and milestone plans compiled to track progress. Manage and provide guidance to the electromechanical engineering team to prepare project implementation plans and review for approval. Review the cash flow projections
compiled by the team to ensure they are realistic for all projects implemented by the team. Ensure that all practices conform to
the necessary legal requirements such as Health and Safety, Environmental, legislation and other requirements as governed
through Act. Conduct project performance reviews and revisions to improve service delivery and performance. Manage and guide
anage the team in
identifying other risks on projects, i.e. political risks, social risks, financial risks, legal etc. before any project commences and
compile mitigating measures. Develop Generic Risk Mitigation/Control Plans and Contingency Plans and enforce compliance by
civil engineering team before the start of projects. Develop and maintain a quality management process for decision making
within the project team to ensure quality standards are adhered to. Enhance and ensure effective communication of the project

Management Unit, Operations, Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Department and Communications/Stakeholder
Relations and the communities to ensure successful project implementation. Lead a team of structural engineering subordinates
in carrying out electro-mechanical engineering designs for multiple projects under portfolio. Manage projects implementation as
per approved SOPs aligned to Framework for Infrastructure Delivery and Procurement Management (FIDPM) from stage 5-9 as
applicable.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Essential qualifications and experience:

In terms of the Capital Projects Departmental EE Targets

Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering OR Bachelor of Electrical or Mechanical
Engineering Degree / Bachelor of Technology in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
Registration as a Professional Engineer or Professional Technologist.
10 years relevant electrical or mechanical engineering experience of which minimum of:
5 years must be in design of electro-mechanical engineering in pumps stations/ reservoirs / WWTW/ valve
chambers/water metering and any other electro mechanical components related to water and sanitation services
5 years in managing a technical team of electrical or mechanical engineers
Computer Literacy in designs packages such as Techno CAD/AutoCAD/Civil Designer/Civil 3D.
