**Job Purpose**:
To undertake security functions and supervise security guards with special emphasis on land invasion control.

**Key Responsibility Areas**:
Supervises, instructs develops and monitors the performance and conduct of staff.
Protects Council buildings, installations, property, employees at their places of work, the Mayor, VIP delegates and members of the public.
Ensuring proper and adequate access and egress control in accordance with the Legislation at Council Buildings, Installations and Property.
Ensures the safety of all departmental equipment and vehicles.
Prepares reports, memorandums, submissions and statements and maintains the prescribed records and registers pertinent to the shift or grouping.
Undertakes specific land invasion control functions.
Provides relief within the Section Leader ranks.
Undertakes standby duties as directed.

**Essential Requirements**:
Matric/Grade 12.

Relevant 3-year tertiary qualification, ie. National Diploma or Degree.
Valid motor vehicle drivers' license (Code B) (Unrestricted).
Must pass a practical departmental evaluation, inclusive of a practical weapon handling
proficiency test. Must maintain proficiency in the handling and use of firearms as issued.
Must be in possession of and maintain a valid Basic First Aid Certificate level 2.

2 Years relevant experience.
Computer Literacy.

**Preferred Requirements**:
Possession of the National Certificate in Security Management.
3 Years relevant experience.

Special Conditions:
Incumbent are required to work long hours under arduous conditions.
Incumbents must be prepared to carry out standby duties after hours and overtime duties as and
when required.
The incumbents of these positions are interchangeable with the incumbents of the positions of Section Leader:
Central, Escorts, Rapid Response, Investigations, Training, Dog Training, Communications, Static Guards and
Operational Reserve.
