Risk Manager: Underwriting

What will you do?

Enterprise Risk Management has an Underwriting Risk Manager position available who will be based in either the Santam Bellville or Sandton offices.

**The Risk Managers will support the Head**: ERM to monitor the overall risk profile of various business units in Santam, by enabling the identification of emerging risks in daily operation of the business. This will be achieved by providing oversight in the form of frameworks, policies, tools, and techniques to support appropriate risk management and control in the first line. Appropriate challenge is required to ensure that management has implemented the control framework appropriately, and that it operates effectively. What will make you successful in this role?

Develop a strong working relationship with Santam’s business units and assist them in embedding a risk management process to identify, mitigate, monitor, report and escalate key strategic and operational risks within the parameters of the Boards risk appetite.
Support the Head of ERM in monitoring Santam’s risk profile to ensure that key risks are managed, relevant action taken, and adequate controls have been implemented by management.
Monitoring key (re)insurance underwriting risks, including identifying risk trends, emerging risks, and risks associated with new or material changes to existing activities or products.
Overall coordination and aggregation of all key risks within Santam for Risk Committee reporting purposes to provide a summary and overview of Santam’s key underwriting risks.
Obtain a good understanding of the external and internal business environment, including strategic and operational goals to evaluate and identify any new and emerging risks. Qualification and Experience

Quantitative risk management degree or equivalent.
Solid underwriting experience. Skills
