ROLE SUMMARY

The incumbent will be responsible for the overall coordination and supervision of the Transplant Team within the

Pretoria region.

KEY WORK OUTPUT AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

**Transplant coordination and clinical support**
- Provide backup support and training for donor management.
- Coordination of solid organ transplantation of organ recipients.
- Coordination of transplant recipient preparation, call-up and follow-up.
- Obtain consent for organ retrieval from relatives of potential organ donors from private and state hospitals throughout Pretoria.
- Act as backup clinical support of a potential donor and assistance with organ recovery, referral and transportation.

**Create awareness**
- Promote organ transplant awareness in nursing, paramedical, medical and public groups by means of lectures, presentations and special projects.
- Ensure awareness and adherence to the relevant legal prescriptions.
- Communication and working relations
- Maintain good working relationships with medical personnel, patients and their families.
- Provide care, advice and compassion to all patients.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Research
- Perform and present local transplant related research projects at congresses and seminars.

**Legal**
- Ensure strict adherence to the National Health Act 2003 Chapter 8 and Policy guidelines as stipulated by the

**Department of Health.**
- Report any potential transgression of the Human Tissue Act, or other legislative control relating to transplantation.

**Record Keeping**
- Keep accurate patient records at all times.
- Maintain all records at a minimum of 93% on audit scoring.
- Maintain a register for all deceased donors, recipients and living donors.

**Management of staff**
- Assist, Supervise and co-ordinate staff, in order to function as a transplant team.
- SKILLS PROFILE

**EDUCATION**
- Current registration with the South African Nursing Council as a Registered Nurse.
- Professional Indemnity.
- Current and valid CPR certification.
- Current and valid ACLS certification.
- A qualification in Intensive Care or Trauma Care would be beneficial.

**WORK EXPERIENCE**
- A minimum of 5 - 7 years ICU experience.
- Previous managerial experience.
- Previous training and teaching experience.

**KNOWLEDGE**
- Computer literate with the ability to present PowerPoint presentations and compile statistics on MS Word and Excel.
- Valid driver’s license and availability to travel.
- Ability to work extended hours.
- Counselling abilities recommended.
