**Purpose of the Position**:
The primary purpose of the Meter Reader position is to collect data accurately and efficiently from utility meters, such as electricity, gas, or water meters. By conducting thorough readings and maintaining precise records, the Meter Reader ensures the billing accuracy for customers and assists in the effective management of utility services. The position plays a vital role in supporting the overall operational integrity of the company. Additionally, the Meter Reader acts as a frontline representative, interacting with customers in a professional manner and addressing any inquiries related to meter readings. Through route planning, data collection, and adherence to safety standards, the Meter Reader contributes to the seamless functioning of the utility services within the community.
**Duties and Responsibilities**:
1. Meter Reading:
- Accurately read utility meters (such as electricity, gas, or water meters) in residential, commercial, or industrial areas.
- Ensure readings are recorded correctly and promptly.
2. Data Collection:
- Collect and compile data for billing purposes.
3. Route Planning:
- Efficiently plan and navigate meter reading routes as per schedule provided to maximize productivity.
4. Reporting:
- Report any irregularities, discrepancies, or damaged meters.
- Provide accurate and timely reports to supervisors.
5. Safety Compliance:
- Follow safety protocols and guidelines while performing meter reading activities.
- Report any unsafe conditions or hazards encountered during the job.
Documentation:
- Maintain accurate records of readings, routes, and any customer interactions.
- Submit reports and documentation as required by the organization.
**Skills and Requirements**:

- Ability to accurately record and transcribe numerical data.

- Good physical condition to walk long distances and handle outdoor conditions.

Understanding that travel expenses will be reimbursed at the prescribed Automobile
Association (AA) rate per kilometer.
**Qualifications and Experience**:
1. Educational Background:
- Minimum educational qualification of Grade 12 (High School Diploma).
2. Tertiary Qualification (Advantageous):
- A tertiary qualification (such as a diploma or degree) in a relevant field would be advantageous.
3. Computer Literacy:
- Proficient in computer usage.
4. Industry Experience (Advantageous):
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in the utility industry would be advantageous.
5. Adaptability to Technology:
- Ability to adapt to and quickly learn new technologies and software used in meter reading processes.
**Job Types**: Full-time, Part-time
**Salary**: R8,000.00 - R8,500.00 per month
Expected hours: No more than 45 per week
