Commissioning Editor Vis and Vbs

A senior creative executive who can manage multiple projects and staff within the Creative Services Department and specifically for Viacom Brand Solutions and Viacom International Studios (VIS). This is for both in house and outsourced productions, including long form and short form content. The role will require understanding of formats from narrative structure as they will work across scripted, factual and reality, producing content for a youth and adult audience. The role requires successful ownership of the full production process for content from conception to delivery.

**VIS**:
Brainstorm, write and work towards activating ideas for pilots, series, shows for Paramount Africa.
Have working knowledge and experience with scripted and non-scripted reality formats.
Write creative treatments for short form and long form concepts.
Supervise and sign-off on budgets drafted by the Production Manager with supervision from the Creative Director.
Produce or oversee more than one show at a time within the set deadlines, (minimum of five shows per month).
Organize own and other’s workload, and delegate projects or parts of them appropriately.
Prepare a Bible for each series produced and a detailed debrief document (e.g., contacts, procedures, problems encountered and cost reports).
Work with the Production Manager and the production team to ensure that all owned projects are delivered on time, on budget and in line with the editorial strategy and guidelines.
Once a project is commissioned, navigating, and managing all stakeholders
Fully responsible for delivery and for all operational work
Have a working knowledge of studio systems as well as co-production and format licensing procedures.
Work with the ATP and licensing team to archive the relevant content required for content licenses. VBS:
Work closely with the commercial department and project manager teams and update them in a timeous fashion.
Present and speak in brand meetings with agency and clients.
Shoot, produce, direct and edit inserts and programmes as needed
Produce or oversee more than one show at a time within the set deadlines, (minimum of five shows per month).
Supervise and support the producers and associate producers with their production schedules and with the production processes they are in charge of.
Supervise all outsourced projects. This includes supervising any on-boarding of suppliers.
Ensure that all steps in the communication with the external production companies, in the look and feel of the series and in the editorial contents are followed and comply the channel needs and regulation.
Prepare written brief, concepts, detailed scripts for every pitch or show within the deadlines required to be approved by the HOD and then distribute to all relevant parties
Prepare a plan for each series that fits within the production calendar guidelines
Work with the Production Manager and the production team to ensure that all owned projects are delivered on time, on budget and in line with the editorial strategy and guidelines.
Team up with Commercial and Marketing to prepare all relevant materials, to provide support and to participate in the pitching of new show concepts / properties to clients; at the same time work with the Production Manager to ensure budgets are drawn up accordingly
Actively and consistently produce ideas to benefit the editorial and production strategy; work towards creating an action plan on how to activate those ideas. Present and discuss the plan to the Executive Producer / HOD for approval
Develop and coach junior production staff
Once a project is commissioned, navigating, and managing all stakeholders
Fully responsible for delivery and for all operational work
Contribute to the creativity on VIMNA tent pole events (MAMA, BET X, Nick Fest, Comedy Central Festival).
Delivering outstanding and award-winning creative work.

**Distribution**:
Liaise with Programming, Communication, Marketing, BALA, Finance, Digital, On-Air during the pre-production of the show. This is also to ensure that best kept practices are adhered to within the business.
Liaise with all relevant international departments to convey the same information as above.
Assist in drafting the content strategy for VIS in addition to content forecasts

**Awareness**:
Be aware of Ofcom, licensing and music compliance procedure for MTV Networks Africa and implement for all productions
Make sure the rest of the team is aware of the above through all production processes,
Be aware of music news and musical trends throughout African continent and use this in MTV Networks Africa business
Be aware of new technology in broadcast systems including mobile, online and web TV and use this in MTV Networks Africa business.
Administration
Manage a team of ten to twelve employees and relay any necessary detail of their functions to HR.
