Coordinator: Student Credit Management

The University of the Western Cape requires a meticulous and attentive individual, who has a deadline driven approach and works well under pressure. The Coordinator in the Student Credit Management Department is a crucial role that combines financial and technical expertise with project management skills to support the effective management of student debt using systems. This role involves student debt management, overseeing projects, system upgrades, providing technical support, and ensuring the smooth functioning of debt management IT infrastructure. The role requires the individual to foster trusting professional relationships with Students, Parents, Financial Sponsors, Faculties and Departments of the University. A strong understanding of accounts receivable procedures and systems, as well as general accounting and financial control principles is required.
Reporting to the Manager: Student Finance, the roles and responsibilities include the following;
**Key Responsibilities include the following**:
- Coordinate all appropriate student billings on systems in a timely and accurate manner.
- Coordinate all student debt collection activity.
- Perform debt collection activity that will improve debt collection ratios and achieve targets.
- Perform monthly and ad hoc reporting requirements.
- Provide technical support to various team members.
- Ensure student data is accurate and complete.
- Coordinate training and document processes that is aligned with policy and best practices.
- Collaborate and communicate with various stakeholders.
- Contribute to policy design and add value to business processes and systems design.
- Continuous identification of areas of improvement, efficiencies and effectiveness.
- Smooth running of the daily activities pertaining to the credit control functions and student debt collection.
- Review, design and implement debt collection strategies to improve and ensure effective collection of the student debt.
- Maintenance of student accounts and staff oversight and collection agents.
- Financial clearance for student registration process.
- Managing student debtors and various interventions.
- Support and cover for co-workers.
- Foster good relationships with stakeholders.
- Perform all banking and accounting responsibilities.
**Minimum Requirements**
- Bachelor's degree in Finance/Accounting or equivalent degree.
- Minimum of 5 years' debt management experience.
- Proficient at an intermediate level MS Office Suite: (MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint).
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
**Advantage**:
- Proficiency in IT project management tools, database management, and software deployment.
- Familiarity with student debt management processes in an educational setting is advantageous.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot technical issues effectively.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for collaborating with cross-functional teams.
- Knowledge of data security best practices and compliance with relevant regulations.
