The Teaching and Learning Specialist: Learning Analytics will be based at the Academic Planning Unit. Their role is to collect, analyse and report on data about the learning environment in order to improve pedagogy, curriculum and programme design. The incumbent will conduct research and disseminate findings to strengthen the field of learning analytics nationally and globally and to support institutional decision-making that enhances the quality of the educational environment.

Key performance areas:
Reporting to the Director: Academic Planning Unit, the incumbent will:

- Adopt an analytic approach to data identification and data collection that promotes insight and understanding of the educational environment;
- Engage in advanced data evaluation and develop predictive models to improve decision making;
- Promote UWC’s transformation agenda and implementation of CTR through data identification and analysis that inform actions and interventions;
- Analyse student performance at module and programme levels to support faculties in preparing for quality reviews and audits;
- Provide information in suitable formats for programme, qualification, and unit reviews and audits;
- Monitor and evaluate student performance and the health of UWC’s academic programmes to support faculties and the university in preparing for quality reviews and audits;
- Track academic and programme reviews to identify key issues that require further analysis and develop mechanisms for deeper analysis of the issues;
- Guide faculties in converting education data into useful actions to foster learning and promote student success:

- Provide staff development interventions, including short courses, for capacitating staff in all areas of student and programme data analytics;
- Conduct research and disseminate research findings through internal reports and peer-reviewed research publications;
- Participate in and contribute to conferences, learning analytics events and research forums in order to build the research field.

**Minimum Requirements**
- Master’s degree in relevant field (at Lecturer rank)
- PhD in relevant field (at Senior Lecturer rank)
- Experience in quality assurance in higher education, particularly pertaining to programme and quality review and audit
- Higher education experience relative to the field of learning analytics

Knowledge and skills required:

- Advanced research, analytical and academic writing skills;
- Knowledge and understanding of the landscape of learning analytics in higher education
- Ability to use statistical software at a high level of proficiency; Ability to think critically and analyse data and information to draw conclusions and recommend decisions
- Excellent planning and organising skills, with the ability to monitor and review;
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and strong interpersonal and communication skills;-
