**Job Purpose**:
The Department of Local Government, Western Cape Government (WCG) has an exciting employment opportunity for a suitable individual who would like to make a difference by managing diasters and major incidents and to ensure disaster preparedness, planning response, institutional arrangements, disaster rehabilitation and reconstruction. This role is crucial in order to promote the development, implementation and maintenance of effective disaster management. This post is stationed in Tygerberg.

**Minimum Requirements**:
An appropriate 3-year B-degree/ Advanced Diploma (NQF 7) or higher qualification as recognised by SAQA in Disaster Management or related qualification; A minimum of 6 years relevant middle-management experience; A minimum of 3 years relevant disaster management experience; Successful completion of the Senior Management Pre-entry Programme for entry into the SMS upon appointment.

**Recommendation**:
A valid code B driving licence; Social Science Qualification; Project Management Certification.

**Key Performance Areas**:
To oversee the co-ordination, monitoring and support of the following: Disaster preparedness and response functions as specified in the Disaster Management Act; Disaster institutional capacity (IGR); Disaster recovery functions as specified in the Disaster Management Act; coordinates and contributes to the implementation of government’s disaster management policies, programs and projects; Human Resource Management; Sound Labour relations within the directorate; Financial Management; Participate in the strategic management and performance management processes; Strategic capability and leadershipl Disaster Management Intergovernmental relations; Disaster Preparedness and response; Disaster Recovery.

**Remuneration**:
All-inclusive salary package of R 1 105 383 per annum (salary level 13).

Note: The remuneration package consists of a basic salary (70%) and the employer’s contribution to the Pension Fund. The remainder of the package may be structured according to your personal needs.
