The Independent Institute of Education (The IIE) is a registered private higher education provider and a wholly owned subsidiary of ADvTECH Ltd, listed on the JSE.

The IIE’s Central Academic Team (CAT) is the custodian of academic quality, educational technology, and governance across the institution. It leads academic strategy, compliance, and operational integrity through robust governance structures.

The current CAT is in the process of being repositioned as a Centre of Excellence, a hub for academic innovation, staff capacity building, quality assurance, and governance across both the schools and tertiary divisions.

**The purpose of the job**:
To support the lead and design, and delivery of transformative educational development initiatives that advance teaching quality, learner engagement, and academic excellence. The role supports curriculum innovation, professional learning, instructional strategy, digital transformation, and quality assurance of professional development materials, with a strong focus on research-led improvement and policy integration.

**Main Outputs and Responsibilities for this Position**:
Curriculum Innovation and Course Design Leadership
- Design and deliver innovative, high-impact learning experiences for lecturers that promote student success
- Provide thought leadership in curriculum design, learner engagement, and course enhancement
- Embed learning science, student-centred approaches, and contextual relevance in course development
- Develop scalable course models that integrate technology, flexibility, and accessibility

Support for Pedagogy, Assessment, and Resources
- Guide academic teams in developing pedagogical frameworks, assessments, and digital learning resources
- Facilitate the integration of learning outcomes, learning materials, and assessment to achieve constructive alignment
- Promote evidence-based teaching practices, peer learning, and innovation in delivery
- Curate and design toolkits and templates to support curriculum and instruction
- Support faculties in developing programme-level T&L and quality-enhancement strategies

Quality Assurance of Professional Development Resources
- Ensure the quality, relevance, and pedagogical soundness of training materials and professional development resources
- Review Sirius modules and development resources for instructional integrity and alignment
- Update and revise learning resources in line with participant feedback and new developments
- Maintain a repository of approved training content and materials

Policy and Governance Contribution
- Contribute to the development of T&L-related policies and quality frameworks
- Support the establishment of standards for instructional practice, curriculum delivery, and assessment
- Participate in institutional governance committees and academic task teams
- Align academic development initiatives with regulatory requirements and institutional goals
- Monitor the implementation and institutional uptake of key educational policies

Research, Evaluation, and Improvement
- Conduct research into the impact and effectiveness of professional development and support services
- Design and implement evaluations of training initiatives and curriculum reforms
- Present findings to institutional leadership and contribute to scholarly publications
- Use data to refine programmes and inform the continuous improvement of educational strategies
- Support the institution’s broader strategic goals through insight-driven recommendations

**Qualification**
- Minimum of a Master's Degree
- Doctoral Degree advantageous

**Experience**:

- Minimum of 3 years in an Academic Development or Curriculum Specialist position
- Minimum of 3 years of Teaching experience in Higher Education
