Building Maintenance Assistant

The main purpose of this role is to assist the handman with building maintenance and repairs. Able to do minor repairs in the plant.

This role reports into the Electrical and Utilities Manager.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES & OUTPUTS

**Building Maintenance Management - Deep Focus**
- Maintenance, Repairs and Projects:

- Assist handyman with building maintenance, repairs and projects.
- Spares are available.
- Minimize wastage.
- Ensure no water leaks in all plumbing installation.
- Assist with planned and preventative maintenance on all building equipment.
- Provide service to the plant.

**Reporting and Documentation**
- Fill in daily logbook.
- Attend to job cards for plumbing, building, carpentry in the plant.
- Stores requisition

**Safety, Health, Environment - We Tread Softly**
- Perform all activities that ensure compliance with applicable safety, health and environment legislation and audit requirements.
- Report any safety defects to the Manager.
- Clean the electrical department to ensure that housekeeping standards are always maintained.
- Ensure housekeeping is kept to 5S standards.
- Follow any reasonable work instruction as may be required from time to time.

**REQUIREMENTS**

**Knowledge and skill**
- Good knowledge of basic plumbing, carpentry, building and roof repairs
- Able to carry out minor maintenance in the plant.
- Attention to detail.
- Inspection of the plumbing installation, condition of the building structure, condition of the factory roofs and cladding, building structure
- Working at heights, ability to lift heavy objects, dig trenches.
- Work in confined spaces and manholes
- Unblock sewer lines.
- Assist with installation of new plumbing lines.
- Mixing of concrete
- Assist with installation of ceilings.
- Road repairs

**QUALIFICATIONS**
- Grade 12/Matric with a pass in Maths/Maths Lit and English.
- At least 6- 12 months or more of experience of good knowledge of basic plumbing, building, carpentry, and roofing.
- Able to operate power tools and hand tools.
