General Manager Mining/Minerals/Metals

Durban - Kwa Zulu Natal - South Africa

Reporting to the CEO you will assume responsibility for the entire processing plant. This position will ideally suit a GM who has an entrepreneurial attitude to business, is geared towards working in a smaller entity and will see it as running your own business. Relocation costs will be covered by the company.

Your background will include a processing (mining/minerals) ideally with a qualification in Metallurgy. You will possess extensive experience in the Production/Processing Plant sector, coupled with the ability to manage the supply of products. Solid business/financial acumen to meet monthly KPIs etc and the full responsibility of a GM role.

Qualifications and experience
- Production/Operations Management degree/certificate/diploma
- 2 years of General Management experience
- 5 years of experience in managing a production department, or similar output-driven environment
- Experience in operating in a regulated environment
- Strong knowledge of warehousing and logistics principles
- Intermediate to advanced MS office knowledge
- Fluency in English
- Experience navigating and utilising an ERP system
- Production/manufacturing budgeting experience
- Experience in managing staff

Key Result Aras:

- General financial management of the business
- Provide leadership and management in respect of all operations
- Take full responsibility for the company's profit and loss for the business
- Develop and maintain relationships with suppliers and contractors
- Production planning and ensuring daily production schedules are met
- Ensure compliance with H&S and environmental requirements
- Manage the third-party logistics relationships
- Identify ways to improve production, packaging and logistics
- Identify opportunities for cost reduction
- Ensure control of raw material and finished product stock levels
- Manage all imports via the harbour
- Implement logistics and warehouse procedures
- Maintain the existing quality management system and strive for ISO compliance and certification
- Manage health and safety function in conjunction with the Group Health and Safety Manager
- Establish procedures and programmes to ensure operation within Environmental Management Plan
