**_ Position Purpose:_**

Develop, implement and manage Occupational Health principles and systems in order to promote and maintain the highest

degree of health for Transnet employees. Promotion and restoration of health, the prevention of illness and injury and the

protection from work-related and

environmental hazards. Provides for and delivers health and safety programmes and services to workers and worker

populations in their place of employment.

**_ Position outputs:_**
- Provide the health services for all employees in order to maintain the well-being of an employee at the highest standard.
- Maintain a healthy and safe environment for all employees in order to promote productivity.
- Ensure correct placement of employees to minimize hazards. Identify health hazards in order to meet legal requirements

and prevent company losses as a result of claims.
- Treat minor ailments to avoid time wasted at local clinics and hospitals by an employee.
- Do medical examinations for all employees in order to ensure that the employee is not a danger to himself and to the

colleagues at the workplace.
- Counsels’ workers about work-related illnesses and social issues
- Establish and maintain good interpersonal relations with outside resources in order to ensure the smooth treatment process

of an employee when referral is made.
- Ongoing counselling to help employees try to overcome their problem.
- Diagnose employees problems and prompt treatment.
- Improving the occupational safety and health conditions
- Plans and manages healthcare within the occupational health environment to provide care within ethical norms
- Participates in quality management through adhering to recognised Occupational Health norms and standards, including but

not limited to, ISO 9000/14001/18001/20001 and other recognised methods of quality assurance
- Utilises recognised audit tools, e.g. OHNP of the Year Audit Tool and Audiometry Audit Tool to conduct a self-audit and/or

audit of an approved experiential site.
- Participates in the planning, implementation and evaluation of disaster management and emergency care programmes in

the occupational setting.
- Ensure compliance with Major Hazard Installation Regulations
- Complies with audit standards such as ISO, SANS and OHSAS and other health and safety management programmes
- Plans for disaster management within the workplace based on risk-based assessments
- Collaborates with local authorities and emergency services for the planning of effective disaster management and

intervention at the workplace
- Applies the epidemiological process in the surveillance of occupational diseases and injuries
- Identifies the need for EAP for the following health related issues: HIV, STI, alcoholism, substance abuse, chronic diseases,

psychosocial conditions, shift work, vulnerable groups such as healthcare workers, violence and executive health
- management.

Manage contracts for the clinic service providers i.e. Netcare

**_ Qualifications & Experience:_**

- Matric
- 3-5 years’ experience
- A basic NQF Level 6 bachelor’s degree or diploma in nursing from a South African university or nursing college
- Registered as a General Nurse (Sister)
- Registered as an Occupational Health Nurse
- Two years working at hospital
- Have certificate in audiometry
- Have certificate in Pharmacology
- Have certificate in Primary Health Care
- Registered as a Community Health Nurse
- Have certificate in counselling
- Standard Job Requirements- Driver’s license code 08
- Travel as required and approved
