**Position Overview**:
The purpose of the position is to control all aspects of the paint shop from throughput to quality thereby assisting the branch with the achievement of its financial and service targets.
**Specific Role Responsibilities**:
1. Paint Shop Controls all aspects of the Paint Shop from preparation to polishing by: Taking full responsibility for the quality delivered from the paint shop operation and developing mechanisms to manage quality throughout the entire paint process. -Mixing colours and ensuring 100% match with vehicle, taking light variations into consideration. -Spraying vehicles and parts, ensuring colour matches and that there is no over spray. - Ensuring sufficient stock of consumables for daily jobs requirement and reporting insufficient stock to the Storeman. -Ensuring that Paint Shop is run in the most cost efficient manner. - Monitoring the use of all equipments in the Paint Shop and ensuring that all equipment remains in a state of good repair. Minimizing the risk of overspray. - Maintain a clean working environment. -Maintaining paint stock levels & ordering of all wet & dry paint related products. -Ensuring that the Paint Shop is run in the most cost-efficient manner. -Monitoring the use of all equipment in the Paint Shop and ensuring that all equipment remains in a state of good repair.
2. Maintenance Ensures effective maintenance of the Paint Shop by: Ensuring that there is sufficient diesel at all times to keep the booths running. -Taking full ownership for the health and safety requirements of the paint shop and ensuring that all staff is trained in emergency procedures.
3. Quality Control Ensures good quality spray painting by: Controlling the output of the preparation team and ensuring that flatting is done correctly. -Checking the masking on the vehicles and ensuring that the masking is done correctly. -Double-checking the quality of both preparation and repair before moving the vehicle for painting. -Checking for 100% colour match. -Ensuring that paintwork is done to highest possible standards. - Checking for over spray on vehicle and cleaning the over spray Checking evenness of colour over the vehicle. -Controlling polishing bay daily activities and ensuring that polishing is done correctly. -Ensuring the final quality sign-off before the vehicle is moved to assembly.
4. General: Ensuring that designated work area is kept clean and tidy at all times. -Booking hand-held equipment into the storeroom at the end of the day. -Taking responsible for the training, checking and testing of apprentices. - Ensuring that the apprentice is studying. -Performing other duties reasonably required from time to time.
**Qualifications and Experience**:
**Minimum Experience**:
- 2 years' and more of relevant experience.
**Minimum Qualification**:
- Grade 12
- Technical Qualification - colour matching - B A Journeyman - Journeyman
**Minimum Requirement**:
- Valid, unendorsed Code 8 driver’s license (at least 2 years old)
- Computer literate (basic level will suffice)
- An excellent command of the English language is essential, both verbal and written
