Thungela Resources [Thungela means “to ignite” in isiZulu] is a leading South African thermal coal business, focused exclusively on thermal coal production. It is one of the largest pure-play producers and exporters of thermal coal in South Africa based on aggregate coal reserves and marketable coal production. Thungela focuses on exporting its thermal coal portfolio mainly to the Indian, Asian, Southeast Asian, Middle East and North African markets.

**More of your responsibilities will include**:

- Staying abreast of category specific trends and develop business-aligned category strategy and plan
- Building and maintaining relationships, influence, and act as an expert in relation to the category across the organisation and external stakeholders whilst driving results through strategy implementation
- Working with sites and BUs to develop and manage high value site-based tenders, contracts and supplier relationships and support key negotiations on high value contracts. Engage key stakeholders and agree the required level of support and outputs
- Identifying data sources and establish networks to generate ideas and opportunities for business improvement, in line with category strategy and plans
- Assessing, monitoring and managing potential supply risk associated within category
- Managing relationships with all key stakeholders (internal and external) to understand and deliver on their service needs and resolve issues optimally
- Prioritising, assessing, allocating resources and delegating on both short-term and long-term bases

**Qualifications**
- Bachelor’s degree in Procurement, Supply Chain, Engineering, or related field (NQF Level 7)

**Experience & Knowledge**
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Category Management in the mining or manufacturing industry
- Good Experience in relation to procurement and commercial aspects of the specific category
- Experience in Procurement and Supply Chain systems
- Experience in business or project management, preferably in a mining environment

**Additional Information**
- Knowledge of relevant legislation including the Mineral and Petroleum Resources Development Act; Protection of Personal Information Act or other related legislation
- Knowledge of Supply Codes of Practices, policies, and procedures
- Extensive knowledge of the BBBEE code of good practice and Mining charter
- Good knowledge of the principles of category management and have specialised knowledge in the following areas:

- Category management cycle
- Source-to-contract, including supplier negotiations
- Supplier Lifecycle Management
- Strong business knowledge of the value chain
