The University of the Western Cape (UWC) enjoys national and international acclaim for its continuing contribution to democratic change in South Africa and for making quality education accessible to all South Africans and developing centres of excellence of national importance. The University of the Western Cape seeks to appoint a **Writer: Media & Communications**.

The appointee’s duties will include, but not be limited to the administration and execution of the following tasks:

- Effectively communicating a set of meta-messages to internal and external stakeholders that are underpinned by the University of the Western Cape’s strategic objectives as set out in the Institutional Operating Plan.
- Researching and writing in-depth articles as well as producing multi-media content related to UWC’s core areas of work, higher education, and other related areas.
- Writing for special UWC publications.
- Collating the latest UWC and higher education news for the university’s electronic newsletter, and

**Minimum Requirements**

**Minimum Requirements**(Qualification and Experience):

- A Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent - preferably in the field of media and communications.
- At least five years’ experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

**Required competencies **(skills, knowledge and behavioural attributes):

- Knowledge of current and emerging media trends.
- Excellent journalistic skills - particularly writing and editorial functions.
- An outstanding command for the English language as well a command for either Afrikaans or isiXhosa.
- Operational planning and project management skills.
- Ability to evaluate public opinion and conduct online research.
- Good organisational skills and time management.
- Ability to accurately popularise academic research.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies.
- Previous experience in the high education environment will be an advantage
