**PURPOSE**

Responsible for providing a good standard of mechanical service to production and other internal customers in terms of Quality, Quantity, Health, Safety, and the Environment. Ensure preventative maintenance is done to prevent breakdown. The Shift mechanical Fitter must ensure that all work is in accordance with relevant codes.

**SPAN OF CONTROL**

This role reports into the Mechanical Workshop Manager.

**KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES & OUTPUTS**
- Continuously monitor the working environment responsible area and report any abnormalities found.
- Trouble shooting and rectify faults occurring due to failure of mechanical equipment.
- Plant and equipment inspection and defect reporting
- Installation of equipment
- Conduct visual inspections on the process and equipment.
- Responds immediately to equipment-related problems and installs, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs across all equipment in the business area to ensure mínimal downtime.
- Manages and schedules repairs on operating equipment in the processing and/or packaging operations, whenever possible, and remains cognisant of quality standards as product quality can be easily compromised.
- Observes and tests operation of sophisticated hydraulic, pneumatic and/or mechanical devices to evaluate, identify and resolve operating problems.
- Performs preventive maintenance on equipment and machinery to include repair/replacement of bearings, valves, actuators, sensors, gearboxes, conveyors, lubrication of parts, cleaning of filters, recalibration of controls, changing line gaskets, adjusting components and/or cleaning of equipment.
- Collaborate across a team and must be willing to learn and share skills with fellow collegues
- Maintains an organised, clean and safe work area.
- Observes all safety guidelines, company rules and regulations, and good manufacturing practices (GMPs) in the performance across outputs and deliverables.
- Ensure the proper use of all tools in the workshop.

**REQUIREMENTS**
- Completion of an apprentice program and passed Trade test as a Fitter or a Fitter & Turner
- 3-5 years working experience in mechanical or similar role is essential.
- Experience in Textile industry advantageous
- Experience in working with hydraulics and pneumatics is essential.
- Must have working knowledge of compressors, pumps, fans, bearings & gearboxes.
- Experienced in working at heights and in restricted spaces to access machinery and equipment components.
- Must be able to move, lift or carry heavy objects or materials.
- Strong fault-finding ability and quick response to complex mechanical problems
- Frequent standing and/or walking is essential.
- Work safely and produce quality work (Work is frequently performed in high places and near conveyors and there is frequent exposure to hot, wet, and humid conditions
- Must be able to work overtime, shifts, weekends, and public holidays.
- Observe and adhere to Health and Safety rules.

**QUALIFICATIONS**
- Grade 12/Matric with Maths/Maths Lit and English
- N3 Mechanical qualification is essential.
- Completed a recognised Fitter or Fitter and Turner Apprenticeship is essential.
