**Job Purpose**:
Supervises a building inspection team responsible for inspections on routine and major impact development to ensure compliance with applicable legislation and regulations, public health and safety requirements.

This post reports to REGIONAL CO-ORDINATOR (BUILDING INSPEC)

**Key Responsibility Areas**:
Leads and mentors the building inspection team.

Oversees the execution of on-site and compulsory inspections in order to comply with plans, legislation, regulations and bylaws.

Monitor progress on approved plans.

Conducts building control enforcement, as a Peace Officer in accordance with correct legal procedures.

Monitors the issuing of completion or occupation certificates.

Monitors and controls dangerous conditions which may result in loss of life, injury to persons or damage to property.

Provides technical advice and guidance on low income housing projects.

Liaise with Regional Co-ordinator Building Inspectorate on building inspection matters.

Supports special programmes and projects.

Supports the management of information attends to enquireis and complaints.

Undertakes administrative duties as may be required.

Maintains knowledge of new technical procedures, techniques and products.

**Essential Requirements**:
Relevant 3 year tertiary qualification.

Must be eligible for registration as a Peace Officer.

Valid motor vehicle drivers' license (Code EB) - Unendorsed.

3 Years relevant experience in the building industry, of which 2 years should be in a supervisory capacity.

Sound knowledge of applicable legislation.

**Preferred Requirements**:
4 Years relevant experience in the Municipality, of which 3 years should be in a supervisory capacity.

**Special Conditions**:
Code 08 driving license unendorsed.
Must be eligible for registration as a Peace Officer.

**Physical Requirements**:
Must be able to conduct on-site inspections of development sites, construction sites and building
