**Purpose of the Job**: The purpose of the Health & Safety Specialist role is to support the Health & Safety team and other business stakeholders to achieve Health & Safety compliance by ensuring an effective response to Health & Safety related matters and undertaking frequent Health & Safety compliance reviews with the business and monitoring related activities including the approach and adherence to policies and procedures within the Group. Business stakeholders will look to this role for proactive, collaborative guidance during Health & Safety compliance analysis, planning and implementation, aimed at addressing and reducing our Health & Safety incidents and compliance gaps and risks including but not limited to Hazard Identification, Risk Assessments (HIRA’s) and Dept of Labour inspections and requirements. This role also participates in Occupational Health and Safety project management and renders general Health & Safety support to the Health & Safety team in executing tasks that align with the Health & Safety team mandate.

**Job Objectives**: Assisting with the development of group health and safety procedures and workflows to deliver an efficient and accurate health and safety delivery and advisory service. Facilitating the legal appointment framework and ensuring compliance with the statutory requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety Act. Facilitating the internal health and safety systems and compliance tools across the group, liaison with information technology and third-party providers to ensure the system operates effectively and efficiently. Facilitating and compiling the Hazard Identification and Risk Assessments (HIRA’s) highlighting potential risks and hazards associated with the work conducted. Executing on the response of health and safety queries and requirements to Divisions Coordinating the receipt of Department of Labour enforcement notices from the various operating facilities. Liaising with operating facilities for information to respond to enforcement notices. Providing assistance and direction to the operating facilities with the implementation of company health and safety procedures and measures to close enforcement notices. Drafting communication to the Department of Labour for approval by the Group Health and Safety Manager. Drafting communications and liaising with the Department of Labour Inspectors and assisting in the facilitation of important inspections. Responding to technical injury on duty queries from Workers Compensation Assistance. Completing Section 24 investigation reports for review by the Group Health and Safety manager and submission thereafter to the Department of Labour. Assisting with serious-fatal incident scenes and emergency management. Conducting key health and safety audits and investigations where required. Ensuring all accidents and incidents across the group within all divisions are investigated in a professional and methodical manner and the findings are forwarded to the management teams, highlighting potential concerns and remedial action. Managing and coordinating all relevant inspections the need to be carried out, and reporting on any deviation to the respective head/appointed representative of the operating facility. Conducting Safety, Health, Environment and Quality inspections on multiple sites, compiling and disseminating the results to regional and national teams. Coordinating and guiding the business in the event of a crisis. Coordinating audits with relevant health and safety authorities. Participating in and supporting Occupational Health and Safety initiatives and projects as identified across the Group. Providing guidance to the relevant training departments and teams regarding statutory legal training requirements. Managing the respective health and safety requirements of third-party suppliers within the supply chain, ensuring the supplier adheres to all statutory as well as group requirements.

**Qualifications**: Diploma, degree in Safety Management, Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent. Preferred Certifications in Incident Investigation and/or First Aid or similar.
**Experience**: +2 years’ experience in Health & Safety FMCG, retail sector Specific experience Safety, Health, Environment and Quality inspections on multiple sites Department of Labour Inspections and respective processes Hazard Identification and Risk Assessments Investigation of accidents and incidents across the group Occupational Health and Safety project management
**Knowledge and Skills**: Demonstrable knowledge of the statutory requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
