Job Purpose:

We are seeking a highly skilled Internal Control Manager to lead our internal control activities, establish and monitor internal control frameworks, and liaise with internal and external auditors. The successful candidate will assist the CFO with financial reporting and other related tasks.

Key Responsibilities:Internal Control Framework:
  • Develop and document internal control frameworks to ensure effective risk management and compliance.
  • Perform and document process walkthroughs to identify areas for improvement.
  • Identify, document, and map key controls to the COSO framework to ensure alignment with industry standards.
  • Identify control gaps and implement solutions to mitigate risks.
  • Deploy and train new controls to ensure seamless integration.
  • Establish consensus with control owners to ensure effective communication and collaboration.
Monitoring Compliance:
  • Plan and execute ongoing internal control compliance monitoring to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements.
  • Communicate and assist in remediating internal control deficiencies to ensure continuous improvement.
  • Report to the CFO and Head of Internal Audit on internal control effectiveness to ensure transparency and accountability.
  • Adjust controls as needed and stay updated on process changes to ensure relevance and effectiveness.
Audit Support:
  • Liaise with internal and external auditors to ensure smooth audit processes and effective communication.
  • Schedule audits and distribute request lists to ensure timely and efficient audit execution.
  • Review audit reports and assist in addressing findings to ensure prompt resolution and continuous improvement.
  • Respond to audit queries and support the CFO in Audit Committee meetings to ensure effective communication and collaboration.
Financial Reporting:
  • Assist in preparing management accounts and annual financial statements to ensure accurate and timely reporting.
  • Support quarterly board report preparation to ensure transparency and accountability.
Requirements:
  • CA (SA) certification is required (non-negotiable).
  • IIA certification is a plus.
  • 2+ years post-SAICA articles experience.
  • Similar industry experience in insurance is preferred.
  • Advanced computer literacy, especially Excel.
  • Ability to self-start, manage multiple deadlines, and work independently.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel within South Africa at least twice a year.
