Cyber Security Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Cyber Security Engineer to fill a critical role in our organization. The successful candidate will be responsible for protecting our IT infrastructure and data by identifying vulnerabilities, implementing security measures, and responding to security incidents. This role involves working closely with IT teams and business units to ensure a secure computing environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Security Assessments: Conduct regular security assessments, vulnerability scans, and penetration tests to identify potential security risks and vulnerabilities.
  • Incident Response: Respond to security incidents, investigate breaches, and mitigate the impact of security threats. Develop and maintain incident response plans.
  • Security Architecture: Design, implement, and maintain security architectures and solutions to protect the organization's IT infrastructure and data.
  • Policy Development: Develop and enforce security policies, standards, and procedures to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Monitoring: Implement and manage security monitoring tools to detect and respond to security threats in real-time.
  • Security Awareness: Conduct security awareness training for employees to promote best practices and reduce the risk of human error.
  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with relevant security standards and regulations, such as GDPR, POPIA, and ISO 27001.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with IT teams to integrate security measures into the development and deployment of IT systems and applications.
  • Documentation: Maintain comprehensive documentation of security policies, procedures, incident response plans, and security architecture.
  • Continuous Improvement: Stay up-to-date with the latest security trends, threats, and technologies. Continuously improve security practices and tools.

RequirementsRequired Qualifications and Experience:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cyber Security, or a related field.
  • Relevant Security Certifications: CISSP, CISM, CEH, or CompTIA Security.
  • Experience: 5-7 years of experience in cyber security or a related role with a strong understanding of security principles and practices.
  • Cloud Security Experience: Experience with cloud security in platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
  • Scripting and Automation Tools: Knowledge of scripting and automation tools, such as Python, PowerShell.
  • Security Operations Centers (SOC): Experience in security operations centers (SOC) or similar environments.
Technical Skills:
  • Security Tools and Technologies: Proficiency in security tools and technologies, such as firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), antivirus software, and SIEM solutions.
  • Vulnerability Assessment Tools: Experience with vulnerability assessment tools and techniques.
  • Network Protocols and Operating Systems: Knowledge of network protocols, operating systems, and web application security.
  • Security Frameworks and Standards: Familiarity with security frameworks and standards, such as NIST, ISO 27001, and CIS Controls.
  • Analytical and Communication Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and address complex security issues. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate security concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
